Sewing Machinist / Shop Floor Operator | Consett, County Durham
Part-time, Permanent | 30 hours per week, with some occasional overtime
We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established manufacturing business based in Consett and are looking for an experienced Sewing Machinist / Shop Floor Operator to join their production team.
This is a hands-on role supporting the manufacture of specialist test fabrics and ensuring customer orders are completed accurately, efficiently, and to a high standard.
The role combines sewing machine operation with wider shop floor production tasks.
ABOUT THE JOB
3. Operating flat sewing machines and overlockers to sew fabric strips
4. Following customer test sheets and work instructions accurately and consistently
5. Recording production information on check sheets
6. Reporting any non-conformances or quality issues
7. Carrying out basic sewing machine maintenance and troubleshooting minor faults
8. Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe working area
9. Meeting daily production targets while maintaining quality and accuracy
10. Working closely with the wider production team to resolve sewing-related issues
11. Adhering to all health and safety standards and company procedures
12. Supporting the wider production area when not sewing, including applying products to fabrics by hand and labelling fabric swatches
WHAT WE NEED
Essential
13. Proven experience operating flat sewing machines and overlockers
14. Background in a manufacturing, textile, or tailoring environment
15. Basic sewing machine maintenance knowledge
16. Ability to follow work instructions accurately and without deviation
17. High attention to detail
18. Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
Desirable
19. Experience using a cover stitch sewing machine
