Are you passionate about improving the safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of medicines across Primary Care? NHS Borders is seeking a highly motivated Medicines Management Pharmacist to join our team.
About the Role:
You will work as part of the Medicines Management Team, providing specialist pharmaceutical advice and services across general practice. This is an exciting opportunity to influence prescribing practices, run audits and quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient care, and deliver education to multidisciplinary teams
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and support cost-effective prescribing initiatives in line with local and national guidance.
* Provide expert advice, education, and training to support our and other teams.
* Undertake medication reviews and contribute to audits on prescribing topics such as anticoagulants and respiratory medicines.
* Analyse prescribing data and support practices to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
About You:
You will be a registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council, holding a master’s degree in Pharmacy and an Independent Prescriber qualification (or working towards it). Experience in medicines management and audit work is essential. Strong communication, problem-solving, and data analysis skills are key to success in this role.

As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
Please note: the salary quoted is for full-time hours (37 hrs per week). For appointments to part-time hours, the salary will be pro-rata.
Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check done than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a "regulated role", your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.
