Offer description

Overview

The iconic Dover castle, the spectacular White Cliffs country, Sandwich - perhaps the most complete medieval market town in Britain - and the flourishing seaside resort of Deal, all surrounded by the garden of England, are just some of the great reasons for you to choose Dover.

The role

We are looking to recruit a dynamic and skilled individual who shares our commitment to delivering excellence across the Dover District.

You can help make the difference. Working within the Property Assets department and reporting directly to the Senior Multi-skilled Tradesperson.

The successful applicants will be working within a team who will be delivering response, cyclical and programmed maintenance to Council owned properties, parks and land throughout the Dover District.

Successful applicants will be responsible for assisting the Senior multi-skilled tradesperson in diagnosing faults, ascertaining appropriate remedies, and carrying out repairs for each project.

Use experience and knowledge to suggest best methods of repair and the most suitable materials/equipment to carry out each repair.

This could be for a wide-ranging variety of tasks involving different trades including ground works, and relating to projects of varying size and complexity.

The role may also include some general administration by means of ordering materials, invoicing filing, and inputting information on asset management software.

You may also be required to carry out work to cover Civic Warden duties such as opening and closing of the offices, setting up meeting rooms, moving furniture, and emptying bins and any other reasonable duties required.

Who are we looking for?

* Qualified (eg City & Guilds, NVQ) in at least one of the traditional building trades such as carpentry, plumbing, plastering, bricklaying, painting and decorating.

* Hold a valid full driving licence (driving licence group B) essential.
* Experience of working in the public sector (desirable).
* Practical knowledge and experience in building maintenance and general caretaking duties.
* The ability to deal with people and willingness to work with limited supervision.
* Have a proven practical experience in building maintenance.

What do we offer?

We can provide a friendly and supportive environment for you to excel in. We also offer several employee benefits, subject to eligibility criteria, such as:

* Benenden Healthcare Membership and Employee Assistance Program
* Opt-in Local government pension scheme with the opportunity for staff to make advanced, voluntary contributions (AVCs) to top up their pension
* Generous annual leave provision
* Discount scheme including reduced membership rates at the local leisure centre
* On-site parking
* Cycle2Work scheme
* Generous Salary Sacrifice Car Scheme

Due to the nature of this role, the successful applicant will be required to undertake a Basic DBS check as part of their pre-employment clearances.

The quality of your application will be considered as part of the recruitment process.
