Works with the multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of the Integrated Sexual Health Service (ISHS) within the locality (hub and spokes), supporting qualified nursing and medical staff with the diagnostic processes.
Main duties of the job
Works with the multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of the Integrated Sexual Health Service (ISHS) within the locality (hub and spokes), supporting qualified nursing and medical staff with the diagnostic processes.
They will demonstrate knowledge and skills in the screening of asymptomatic patients for sexually transmitted infections, providing simple advice to support patient wellbeing and enable an individual's decision making.
Supports the administrative team, covering the reception area, booking patient appointments both at walk‑in clinics and through the central booking system, signposting prospective patients seeking advice for their Sexual Health needs.
Promotes treatment, control and prevention of the spread of STIs including HIV, offering patients basic information, support and health education in a safe, friendly, non‑judgemental and confidential environment, both within the service and in partnership settings.

* Plans individual care based on assessment, making adjustments to meet the individual needs of the patient.
* Supports the diagnostic process through the reading of slides under the microscope and documenting the findings into the patient record.
* Prepares all rooms daily for clinical consultation and examination, cleans and clears away equipment as necessary and ensures clinical areas are kept adequately supplied with equipment/resources whilst at all times working in accordance within infection control standards.
* Ensures equipment used by others is properly stored and maintained.
* When covering reception or the Central Booking Line uses triage guidelines to guide decision making when advising patients on whether and when they can be seen and the appropriate appointment type.
* Undertakes simple history taking from asymptomatic patients against a pre‑determined template, providing and receiving sensitive information.
This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route. Sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds, and any role‑specific criteria. For example, applicants for the Senior HCA role must be able to evidence a minimum of 2 years experience in the same role to qualify for sponsorship.
Person Specification
Education/experience
* Care Certificate from an Ofqual regulated awarding organisation.
* Maths and English GCSE (grade C or above or grade 4-9) or Maths and English Level 2 functional skills.
* Experience of working as a chaperone in a health care setting.
* Experience of working in reception area or triage in health care setting.
Skills
* Highly developed range of skills developed through practice which ensures accuracy i.e., venepuncture, point of care testing.
* Experienced in microscopy with competency achievement in reading slides.
Safeguarding
* Previous experience of working with vulnerable groups.
* Up to date on safeguarding training for adults and children.
* Level 3 children safeguarding training.
Other
* Experience of working in a team.
* Can work unsocial hours/weekends when required.
