Job Description – Site Construction Manager (HVDC Interconnector Project)

Location: Scotland
Project: HVDC Interconnector
Duration: 3 year contract

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Site Construction Manager to oversee and deliver site-based construction activities for the High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Interconnector Project In Scotland. This role will involve managing civil, electrical, and mechanical works across HVDC converter stations, substations, and associated infrastructure.

The Site Construction Manager will ensure works are executed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest technical and quality standards, working within a joint venture/consortium framework. The position requires close collaboration with National Grid and other stakeholders, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, project specifications, and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead and manage all site construction activities, including civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical scopes.
* Oversee the safe execution of works in line with CDM Regulations, site safety plans, and company HSE policies.
* Coordinate with design, engineering, and procurement teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
* Manage construction schedules, resources, subcontractors, and logistics to meet project milestones.
* Interface directly with National Grid and other regulatory stakeholders, ensuring compliance with standards and project requirements.
* Supervise and direct subcontractors, ensuring alignment with project specifications and quality requirements.
* Ensure site activities align with project budget, programme, and risk management frameworks.
* Report progress, risks, and issues to project leadership.
* Foster strong working relationships across joint venture/consortium partners to ensure seamless delivery.
* Support commissioning teams during energisation and handover phases.

Skills & Experience Required

* Proven track record as a Site Construction Manager (or similar leadership role) on large-scale infrastructure or energy projects.
* Strong knowledge and practical experience in HVDC/AC substations, interconnectors, converter stations, and electrical systems.
* Previous experience working on National Grid projects (preferred).
* Demonstrated ability to manage complex multi-disciplinary construction activities.
* Experience working in a joint venture/consortium environment, with clear understanding of governance, communication, and collaboration requirements.
* Strong knowledge of UK construction regulations, CDM, and health & safety management.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
* Ability to manage schedules, budgets, and teams effectively under challenging project conditions.
* Relevant engineering/construction qualifications (degree or equivalent), with professional chartership desirable.
