Ward 6 is an 18‑bedded ward providing a high standard of care for older patients. We work closely with therapists and MDT to care for and plan a safe discharge for our patients and also specialise in movement disorders.

Job Responsibilities
* Assist patients with hygiene, personal care and grooming, including emptying catheter bags.
* Provide toileting needs, ensuring privacy and dignity.
* Support patients in managing incontinence.
* Measure fluid intake and output using fluid balance charts and report to the registered nurse.
* Prepare and serve meals, drinks and snacks, assisting or feeding patients as necessary.
* Assist patients in completing menu forms and liaise with the Catering Department regarding meal numbers.
* Report dietary intake as indicated in the patient’s plan of care.
* Carry out movement and handling safely in accordance with training and the patient’s manual handling plan.
* Enable patients to maintain/improve mobility using exercise and mobility appliances per care plans.
* Assist in preventing pressure sore development as directed in the plan of care.
* Obtain specimens from patients for ward or laboratory testing.
* Escort patients to clinical departments within the hospital.
* Assist the registered nurse in performing last offices.
* Make general observations and report anything untoward to registered nursing staff.
* Initiate Basic Life Support techniques as appropriate and provide assistance to the registered nurse during prolonged resuscitation.
Ensure due regard is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients and carers.
Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential)
* Willingness and capability to undertake NVQ level 2.
Experience (Essential)
* Suitable work/life experience.

* Previous experience in a caring role.

* Basic computer skills.
