Position Summary
The NHS Highland 24/7 Forensic Medical Examiner service supports Police Custody Healthcare and Sexual Assault Coordination Services (SARCS). The post holder works within the nursing workforce delivering custody healthcare services and forensic medical examinations. The role is based in Inverness with possible support to remote sites across NHS Highland.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct forensic medical examinations in a nurse‑led service and in partnership with Police Scotland.
* Provide support and consultation to remote sites across NHS Highland.
* Hold a leadership portfolio on behalf of the service, ensuring ongoing development in areas such as children and young people, telehealth & digital technology, mental health & substance use, and peer supervision & support.
* Implement Healthcare Improvement Scotland Standards for Healthcare and Forensic Services for adults, children and young people who have experienced rape and sexual assault.
* Respond when rostered: in person, via telephone or Near‑Me (no on‑call requirement).
Qualifications & Experience
* Hold an MBChB with a licence to practice as a GP, Specialist Doctor or Consultant.
* Be in possession of MFFLM or be working towards this.
* Trauma‑informed, excellent communication skills, passion for improving outcomes for individuals in care.
* Previous experience in forensic or sexual assault care is advantageous but non‑essential.
Salary
Salaried GP: £98,238 to £110,736 per annum, pro rata. Specialty Doctor: £61,690 to £96,129 per annum, pro rata. Consultant: £107,144 to £142,369 per annum, pro rata.
