Location: Swindon (Hybrid – 2–3 days onsite per week)
Rate: £27.00 per hour PAYE / £34.70 per hour Umbrella
Contract: 12 weeks Initially

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Assistant HR Business Partner to join a large, forward-thinking local authority on an interim basis. This role sits within a well-established HR Operations team and will play a key part in supporting directorates with high-quality, proactive HR advice while permanent recruitment is underway.
The Role
Reporting to an HR Business Partner, you will provide professional HR guidance and support to managers and staff across designated service areas. You will build effective working relationships, enabling you to influence, coach and challenge constructively while ensuring compliance with employment legislation and organisational policy.
Key responsibilities include:
* Providing clear, balanced advice on HR policies, employment law, terms and conditions
* Managing a broad range of complex casework including disciplinary, grievance, absence management, conduct and performance
* Coaching and supporting managers to build confidence and capability in people management
* Liaising with Trade Union representatives on individual and collective matters
* Screening vacancies and identifying redeployment opportunities
* Undertaking job evaluations to ensure fair and consistent grading
* Analysing and interpreting people data (e.g. sickness, case trends) to provide insight to senior stakeholders
* Supporting recruitment processes in line with policy and governance requirements
* Contributing to HR projects, policy development and continuous improvement initiatives
About You
You will be CIPD qualified (or working towards qualification) with significant experience operating in a complex, unionised environment. You will bring strong case management expertise and be confident advising senior managers on sensitive and contentious HR matters.

Working Arrangements
This is a hybrid role, with attendance required on site in Swindon 2–3 days per week and additional on-site attendance for meetings as needed.
