An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Registered Nurse within the Welsh Blood Service, based at Talbot Green within the Velindre University NHS Trust (Welsh Blood Service). The role supports the Senior Clinic RNs and the wider collections team in delivering high-quality, individualised care to lifesaving donors. You will provide effective and compassionate clinical leadership to ensure optimal donor care. The Welsh Blood Service offers a comprehensive training programme on a supernumerary basis to prepare you for this key clinical role.
Responsibilities
* Support the Senior Clinic Nurse in the safe and effective collection of blood at donor clinics and in all aspects of donor nursing and clinical care.
* Maintain a safe environment when working in the clinic and act as a source of clinical knowledge for advice and direction to non-clinical staff.
* Flex through various teams and blood collection facilities (bloodmobiles, static sites, community clinics) across a large geographical area.
* Undertake scheduled tours that may include overnight stays several times a year.
* Support high-quality, evidence-based care and contribute to continuous service improvement.
Location and Terms
* Welsh Blood Service, Ely Valley Road, Pontyclun, CF72 9WB
* Post is fixed term/secondment until 31/05/2026. If applying as a secondment, obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying.
* Post is full-time, Band 5, pay £31,516 to £38,364 per annum, 8 months duration.
Requirements
* Essential: Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
* Desirable: First Aid Certificate; ability to speak Welsh.
* Experience: working in a customer-focused environment; working in a team; handling sensitive or confidential matters and understanding its application to the role.
* Knowledge: ability to assess donor needs that may be complex; understanding of confidentiality; awareness of WBS role in the wider community.
