Cover Supervisor – Portsmouth
Prospero Teaching is looking for confident, reliable Cover Supervisors to support secondary schools across Portsmouth. This role involves taking charge of a classroom when teachers are absent, delivering the set lesson plan, and ensuring students remain engaged, safe, and productive.
This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who enjoys working with young people and wants valuable classroom experience. It is ideal for graduates, aspiring teachers, tutors, mentors, coaches, or anyone with strong communication skills and the ability to lead a group.
You can choose full‑time ongoing work or flexible day‑to‑day cover depending on your preference.
The Role:
1. Deliver pre‑prepared lesson plans across various subjects
2. Supervise classes across KS3 and KS4
3. Keep students focused and engaged during the lesson
4. Manage behaviour in line with school expectations
5. Answer general questions and support students where needed
6. Provide cover both in advance and at short notice
7. Maintain a calm, positive and structured classroom environment
Ideal Candidate:
8. Experience working with young people (schools, coaching, youth work, tutoring, mentoring, etc.)
9. Confident leading a classroom independently
10. Strong communication and organisational skills
11. Able to remain calm, adaptable, and proactive
12. Comfortable covering a range of subjects
13. Graduates or aspiring teachers are encouraged to apply
Contract Details:
14. Position: Cover Supervisor
15. Location: Portsmouth
16. Start: ASAP
17. Working Pattern: Full‑time or day‑to‑day
18. Pay: Up to £130 per day
19. Key Stages: KS3-KS4
Experience, Training & Safeguarding:
20. Experience with young people required
21. Behaviour management experience helpful
22. Safeguarding training can be provided
Eligibility:
23. Right to work in the UK
24. Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
