Overview of the Role
The post holder will play an integral role in ensuring the smooth running of academic matters and providing administrative support within the College, deputising for the Academic Registrar in their absence. They are expected to develop expert knowledge of College and University systems and procedures, make effective decisions, and build key relationships within and beyond the College. The post-holder will work closely with the Academic Registrar, College Officers responsible for academic activities, College’s Academic Office staff, Fellows, lecturers, other College professional staff, undergraduate and graduate students. Liaison with staff in other colleges and University departments will also be required.
This is a senior administrative position suitable for candidates who have held administrative responsibilities in an academic or related environment, enjoy working collaboratively with administrative staff, Fellows, and academics of the College.
Person Specification
Essential
* Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience.
* Experience in a similar role within Higher Education.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, including proficiency in verbal and written communication, and an awareness of the sensitivities involved in dealing with diverse constituencies within a collegiate University.
* Excellent IT skills, including word processing, email, spreadsheets, and databases.
* Accuracy, attention to detail, and an organized, methodical approach to work.
* Problem-solving skills, exercising judgment and initiative.
* The ability to work calmly under pressure, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
* Flexibility in approach, with a cooperative attitude and an understanding that roles in a busy office are not always clearly defined; team members will need to support each other to maintain high standards of service.
* The ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion.
Desirable
* Line management experience.
* Experience in a welfare or pastoral role.
* Experience serving on committees.
Hours of work: Normal office hours are 33.75 hours per week, generally between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm, with up to an hour for unpaid lunch.
