About the role

Technology Scotland is looking for a Senior Programme Manager (Critical Technologies) to join a friendly, highly skilled, multidisciplinary team working at the heart of Scotland’s Enabling Technology Sector. While the role will be primarily focussed on supporting Scotland’s Critical Technologies Sector - through the recently launched Critical Technologies Supercluster Initiative - there will also be opportunities to engage in activities across the Technology Scotland portfolio.


The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, highly-organised and pro-active member of the team, with a strong background in one of the key critical technologies sub-sectors – photonics, quantum, semiconductors or connectivity and sensing. As a member of a small team, you will have the opportunity to work closely on a range of different tasks and projects at any one time, therefore attention to detail and the ability to prioritise is essential.


This is a fixed term post starting on 1st October 2025 until 31st March 2028, although it is expected the role will continue beyond this time.


Job Description

As Senior Programme Manager (Critical Technologies) you will have lead responsibility for Technology Scotland’s role in delivering activities under the Critical Technologies Supercluster, an initiative developed in partnership with Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise, University of Glasgow and University of Strathclyde.


Working alongside the Director of our Photonics Scotland Network, you will develop and deliver a complementary portfolio of services to support the supercluster’s stated ambition to grow beyond £4.2bn in revenues by 2035. This will include delivery on an action plan that includes skills development, investment, internationalisation and collaboration. Member and stakeholder engagement will be a crucial part of your role, building relationships with key partners to identify their challenges and develop strategies and activities to provide the necessary support.


Key responsibilities will include:

* Developing a valued service portfolio - including events, reports, roadmaps, surveys - with an aim to:

o Identify and support sectoral challenges

o Facilitate knowledge exchange, collaboration and communication

o Increase awareness of, and within, the supply chain

o Increase the opportunity for investment and funding

o Increase awareness externally of the network’s capabilities and opportunities

* Researching developments, challenges and issues for the sector and coordinating responses

o Capability mapping and roadmap development

o Strategic reports

* Stakeholder management

o Member engagement and recruitment

o Representing the sector to key external stakeholders

* Coordinating events and workshops

o Developing and scoping events to include a compelling theme, venue, date & time, and promotional materials

o Securing appropriate presenters and sponsors from within industry and academia


Person Specification

The successful candidate will become a visible representative of Scotland’s Critical Technologies Sector and therefore must be a highly proactive, enthusiastic individual, with excellent communication and engagement skills. Technology Scotland is a small but rapidly evolving organisation where variety is the norm and as such the role requires a high degree of flexibility and teamwork in order to achieve company goals. The role will involve frequent and regular business travel throughout Scotland and the UK, with some limited international travel.


Key qualifications:

* A degree in any relevant engineering or physical sciences discipline.


Key experience(s):

* At least five years’ experience working in a technical/engineering/commercial function within the critical technologies sector.
* Commercial experience, including knowledge exchange and/or knowledge of trade associations would be advantageous.

* Flexible and adaptable to operate within a role in which the context is often dynamic.
* An excellent oral and written communicator with the ability to promote ideas and generate enthusiasm in a diverse range of stakeholders.
* Credible, with the ability to confidently represent Technology Scotland’s purpose and mission to a diverse group of experienced stakeholders.
