Estate Project Coordinator (FTC until July 2028)

Are you a meticulous coordinator with a knack for keeping projects, people and paperwork in perfect order?

About us

The Science Museum Group (SMG) is the largest and most complex museum estate in the country which also houses a scientific collection of international significance. The Estate Operations team has responsibility for ensuring that the SMG Estate meets all legislative and operational requirements, is consistently well maintained, efficiently run and delivers an excellent customer experience to staff and visitors alike. In addition to overseeing the maintenance of building assets both historic and new, there is also a significant role for the team in ensuring full integration with Masterplan and Capital projects across the portfolio and to sustain those new developments once project delivery is completed.

'Resilience' derived from the Estate is a strategic priority for SMG and this special period ahead will see significant investment made which builds on the standout developments already achieved and further conserves and expands on an incredible portfolio of building assets across six sites, each with their own unique challenges and opportunities.

About the role

Reporting to the Estate Manager, you will be an integral part of the on site Estate Operations Team. The role will act as estate support for the capital works and masterplan project managers and delivery teams, coordinating and delivering projects across the site. You will ensure these projects have access to relevant Estate records and are provided with information in a timely manner, identifying and working with the Estate colleagues to efficiently fill any information gaps.

You will coordinate documentation and manage the financial administration of Estate related aspects of projects, and act as first point of contact for Estate contractors working in collaboration with project teams.

The role will be an Estate representative at meetings with internal stakeholders and contractors to provide updates on site activity and project works.

This role is a fixed term contract until July 2028, working 35 hours per week, based at the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester. Hybrid working is available, with the opportunity to work from home up to 2 days a week, as operations allow.

About you

We're keen to hear from organised, self‑motivated individuals with a solid coordination background - you don't need to come from a facilities or estate management environment specifically, but you'll need to demonstrate solid transferable experience and a genuine understanding of what that kind of work involves. You'll be someone who is switched on and inquisitive, with a working appreciation of building and estate‑related works - understanding what's involved in something like drainage maintenance or roof works, for example.

Day-to-day, you'll be meticulous in managing and sourcing information across large volumes of documentation, keeping project spreadsheets and handover documents accurate and up to date, and making sure the right information is always accessible when it's needed. Clear communication and stakeholder management are central to the role - you'll be someone who consistently keeps relationships warm, stays updated across what's happening on projects, and ensures nothing falls through the cracks.

Above all, we're looking for someone who thrives in a busy environment, manages their workload with clear priorities, and brings real attention to detail to everything they do.

We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this or other opportunities that we have.

What we offer

* Meaningful work - a mission‑led organisation.
* Career growth - enhanced support with personal and professional development.
* Work/life balance - 27 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays and flexible policies.

Open for All

We are working hard to understand our organisation better and to develop a culture that recognises and values different backgrounds, mindsets, skills, experience, knowledge, and expertise. By having greater diversity, we believe that we will be a stronger and better organisation, capable to continue to Inspire Futures.
