Overview We now wish to recruit a E&I Project Engineer to support project activities at one of our client sites in the Cheshire area. Responsibilities Key Responsibilities: Lead and develop the E&I strategy of the site, ensuring compliance, reliability, and continuous improvement. Support and guide the maintenance manager with the day-to-day maintenance activities across electrical, instrumentation, and automation disciplines including updating procedures, and preventative maintenance plans Provide technical leadership and guidance to the maintenance team and contractors. Support the Sr Project managers (site based & group engineering) with the design of new solvent recycling plants (UK mainly and abroad) Ensure all E&I systems comply with UK regulations (e.g., BS7671, ATEX, DSEAR, PUWER, COMAH). Oversee and ensure delivery of small to mid-sized enabling projects including automation upgrades, control system improvements, and equipment replacements. Act as the engineering authority for all plant-wide E&I modifications and change control. Develop scopes, cost estimates, and execution plans for E&I and automation work packages. Manage project timelines, budgets, risks, and resources in alignment with business priorities. Collaborate with (external) automation and process engineers to enhance process control and digitalization. Maintain and improve PLC, SCADA, DCS, and HMI systems (preferably Siemens-based). Ensure cybersecurity standards are upheld in all automation-related systems. Coordinate with OEMs, integrators, and contractors for specialist E&I or automation work. Lead E&I input into site outages, shutdowns, turnarounds, and start-ups. Maintain accurate as-built documentation, drawings, loop diagrams, and E&I asset registers. Contribute to site reliability efforts through root cause analysis and equipment performance monitoring. Support safety studies (HAZOP, LOPA) and provide E&I expertise in hazard identification and risk reduction. Be the primary E&I contact for large capital projects delivered by group project teams. Ensure effective handover and integration of project deliverables into operational maintenance Qualifications Ideally you will have the following: Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Automation Engineering. 5 years’ relevant experience in a COMAH/chemical or process manufacturing environment. Proven track record managing E&I maintenance and projects, including budget responsibility. Strong working knowledge of UK electrical regulations, functional safety, and industrial control systems. Experience with permit-to-work systems, contractor management, and site safety leadership. Familiarity with CMMS and engineering drawing tools (e.g., AutoCAD). Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
