Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist - Neuro

CLCH Hertfordshire Adult Community Services - CLCH NHS Trust provides a range of Community Services, and the Hertfordshire Division is recruiting!

We are looking for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist with experience in stroke and neurological rehabilitation to join our Integrated Community Stroke Service (ICSS).

This modern service follows the national model and is delivered by a skilled multidisciplinary team offering rehabilitation at various intensities:

* Early Supported Discharge (ESD): High-intensity rehab for up to 6 weeks post-discharge for mild-moderate new stroke.
* Neurological Enhanced Transition Team (NETT): High-intensity rehab for up to 6 weeks post-discharge for moderate-severe stroke or other neurological conditions.
* Community Stroke Team: Long-term stroke rehab support.

This is an exciting 9‑month opportunity, available as a fixed‑term contract or secondment. It's a fantastic role for someone passionate about neuro and eager to join a forward‑thinking, supportive, and enjoyable team. You'll work alongside experts, with plenty of opportunities to learn, grow, and be challenged.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, an adaptable approach, and the ability to work confidently within stroke guidelines while contributing to the development of our stroke pathway.


Main duties of the job

To be an active member of CLCH ICSS multidisciplinary team, providing a comprehensive occupational therapy service to residents within West Hertfordshire. The ICSS includes ESD, Neuro Enhanced Transition Team (NETT) and stroke community pathway.

To assess and treat own caseload of clients who are within the stroke pathway.

To work within professional standards and clinical guidelines, promote best practice and to undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.

To build up and maintain key relationships with referring services to facilitate appropriate referrals supporting the coordinator where required.

To take lead role for occupational therapy, prioritising and ensuring a timely response for assessments.

To be responsible for the supervision and line management of junior staff, including Band 6 occupational therapists, rehabilitation assistants and occupational therapy students.

To support self and service development through active participation in continuing professional development (CPD) and by participating in any audit or research being undertaken by the service.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification


Education/Qualification

* Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy
* Current HCPC registration
* Evidence of up to date CPD portfolio
* Attendance at specialist advanced courses or equivalent CPD activities within the specialist areas of Adult Rehabilitation, Neurology and stroke
* Educated to Masters Level in Neuro Occupational Therapy or equivalent combination of post graduate diplomas


Experience

* Experience post registration as a Band 6 Occupational Therapy in neurology/stroke rehabilitation
* Post-registration experience of working in a community rehabilitation setting at a senior level.
* Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience working at a junior level in a wide range of specialised clinical areas including, stroke and neurology, Cognitive impairments outpatients
* Experience in supervising and appraising junior therapists and support workers.
* Experience in supervising Occupational Therapy students
* Experience working with voluntary organisations


Skills & Knowledge

* Skills in the assessment and treatment of adults with complex neurological conditions and multi-pathologies
* Knowledge and understanding of complex medical conditions including, neurology, multi-pathologies
* Knowledge of the relevant clinical guidelines
* Advanced communication and report writing skills, in both verbal and written format
* Basic IT skills - Microsoft Word, Power point, Excel
* Advanced knowledge and understanding of the neuro rehabilitation process
* Knowledge and experience in research and audit


Key Attributes

* Able to resolve situations of conflict
* Must have a car and valid driver's license in the UK

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

£50,008 to £56,908 a yearper annum, inclusive of HCAS (pro rata)
