Safeguarding and Wellbeing Officer Hull Working Hours: 37 hours per week, 40 weeks per year Salary: £26,163 (Actual Salary £24,262.65) As our Safeguarding and Wellbeing Officer, you will support and embed effective and coordinated safeguarding, providing support, intervention, and leadership as a Designated Safeguarding Officer, across our various Institutes and Departments. Reporting directly to the Head of Safeguarding & Well Being and DSL/DDSL this role will act as the first point of contact for safeguarding and wellbeing concerns to take the required action and signpost internally and to external services as appropriate. With a high level of support and focus around child protection/child in need, children looked after, mental health issues and prevention support, this role will provide effective support for individual students who have a wide range of safeguarding and protection needs to support their safety, well-being and progress. Responsibilities of our Safeguarding and Wellbeing Officer : Take responsibility on behalf of the organisation for day-to- day student safeguarding and wellbeing support and guidance, following key legislative requirements (Children Act 1989, 2004), Care Act 2014, and DfE statutory Guidance, specifically Keeping Children safe in Education 2025. Promote a positive safeguarding culture of enquiry, support, intervention, and appropriate information sharing that leads to effective and robust safeguarding procedures being followed and actioned. Attend and contribute to key stakeholder and statutory meetings that support student safety, welfare, and well-being, including child and adult protection strategy meetings, child protection review conferences, core review meetings, children looked after PEP meetings, Camhs, and crisis services, etc Manage a caseload of students from referral to case closure including where there are active safeguarding, protection and welfare concerns, and children who are looked after to ensure effective and coordinated safety and support for these students Deliver via small group/1:1 staff training, or attending staff mee to internal staff who may require leadership, tools and upskilling to understand their safeguarding responsibilities, duties, and signposting/referral. Work with key local agencies (including statutory child and adult protection) and internal systems to ensure care, and safety plans, referrals, risk assessments and support plans are in place and supporting students. Meet information sharing protocols and high-level communication needs to ensure families, relevant external agencies, students, and relevant curriculum teams are informed and supported to ensure a coordinated response. Work closely with relevant internal departments for example, SEND Coordinator, Student Finance Team, Careers, Admissions and Senior College Counsellor to ensure a joint approach to wellbeing and welfare leading to positive college experiences, timely interventions and impactful restorative actions by all Draw up agreed action plans with students, outlining the aims of mentoring, and monitoring their progress Maintain accurate and comprehensive safeguarding records of, referrals, actions taken following concerns raised, monitoring, and closing off records on shared systems. Attend and contribute to regular staff team meetings and individual supervision that support the postholder in their role and protect children and adults. What we’re looking for in our Safeguarding and Wellbeing Officer : Qualified to degree level or equivalent professional qualification Safeguarding qualification to L3 or 4 Successful track record of influencing key internal staff, stakeholders and teams (including parents, carers, families, professionals) to achieve positive outcomes in the safeguarding and wellbeing of students Experience of working within a customer service environment such as education Experience of successful budget management Strong commitment to supporting and improving the opportunities and life chances of young people Good oral and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal and networking skills Good planning and organisational skills Good leadership skills and ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve Good problem solving and decision-making skills Ability to use IT at level commensurate with job role.
