The Role

Are you passionate about supporting students to thrive at university? Are you empathetic, organised, and committed to inclusion and wellbeing? Join our Accommodation Services team as a Residences Life Support Coordinator (Education and Wellbeing) and make a direct impact on student life.

You will lead on welfare support, including conducting welfare checks, organising 1-1s and flat meetings, and signposting students to appropriate services. You'll help shape an inclusive and supportive student experience by designing and delivering a residential curriculum that promotes personal, academic, and career development. As the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) lead, you’ll also play a vital role in supporting underrepresented student groups and fostering a welcoming environment for all.

Working collaboratively with other Residences Life Coordinators, you’ll help design and deliver a vibrant, inclusive residential curriculum that fosters personal, academic, and social development. From wellbeing checks to policy implementation, your work will shape a safe, supportive community where students can flourish.

Key Accountabilities

* Be a knowledgeable point of contact for prospective and existing residents who need advice and assistance with health and wellbeing concerns or queries, referring them to our Student Health and Wellbeing Team and other services where necessary.
* Proactively promote the Residences Life model to support and encourage learning, relationships, and community engagement.
* Support the growth and development of the educational curriculum within the ResLife programme, including the monitoring and maintaining of the social media channels, from a wellbeing and EDI perspective.
* Engage with students to understand, assess, and evaluate their needs and concerns, whilst monitoring the effectiveness of support provision during their stay in University owned and managed accommodation.
* Be an active voice within accommodation to ensure the needs of under-represented groups are considered within the ResLife programme.
* Be a main point of contact for under-represented groups in accommodation including but not limited to under 18s and estranged students/care leavers.
* Lead on attending and conducting wellbeing checks and door knocks on residents of concern during working hours.
* Develop and update reporting mechanisms within accommodation to help identify students in need of additional support and signposting (in-line with Student Health and Wellbeing’s IMS Scale).
* Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with a diverse range of University services and partners to facilitate referral, signposting, and information sharing.
* Foster a culture of partnership and collaboration, identifying opportunities for joint initiatives and projects that benefit students and the wider university community, including collaboration with private providers to ensure accommodation meets students’ needs.
* Work within University and Service policies and procedures while introducing local process reviews to ensure service provision and residents’ expectations are met and maintained.
* Backfill and support the duties of fellow ResLife Coordinators when covering annual leave and sickness.

Knowledge, Skills And Experience

* Excellent organisation skills.
* Ability to prioritise own workload and conflicting priorities.
* Able to work effectively as a member of the team and to develop effective working relationships with colleagues, students, and wider University services.
* Ability to work to tight deadlines and work under pressure.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrable strong active listening and empathetic skills.
* Knowledge and compliance to GDPR protocols, with an ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion with sensitive information.
* Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information, pay attention to detail and to work flexibly and cooperatively with others.
* Knowledge of pastoral and academic support mechanisms for students.
* Deep understanding of and commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion principles, with sensitivity to students from diverse backgrounds.
* Experience of using social media channels including but not limited to TikTok and Instagram.
* Ability to identify and resolve issues in stressful and difficult situations.
* Evidence of relevant experience in an accommodation-related or student support role, with extensive experience in Higher Education and in a customer-focused environment fostering a safe, welcoming environment for students.
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and record-keeping, with experience in report-writing and concise communication.
* Must be available to work overtime at key weekends to meet the needs of the business.

Qualifications

* A good educational background to at least A’ level standard or equivalent, including strong writing and numerical skills.


Desirable

* Knowledge of local and national support services, disability, equality, diversity and inclusion issues, and understanding of how disability impacts the student experience.
* Experience using complex IT systems for customer service (experience with Kinetic Software desirable).
* Experience using Canva for photo editing or content creation.
