The team
The mental health team is a friendly and supportive team of Social Workers & AMHP’s, supported by a Senior Practitioner, AMHP development Officer and Team Manager. We work closely with other Adult Social Care teams and external partners such as health and care providers. We want all Gateshead residents to lead thriving lives - we use a strengths-based conversational approach, focusing on an individual’s strengths and that of the community around them. In addition, we support hospital discharge in a timely manner with the focus on maintaining community living.
We have regular monthly team case consultation, team meetings with various speakers and morning huddles. This creates a warm and supportive environment in which to enhance learning and knowledge of wider services. We operate hybrid working which will incorporate office based and remote working for flexibility. In order to ensure a balance of experience and skills across the Mental Health Team, currently we are specifically seeking experienced social workers, with post qualified expertise in mental health.
About the role
Gateshead Council’s ambitious Adult Social Care service are currently looking to recruit a Social Worker, who is registered with Social Work England, you must have a social work qualification or be pending successful completion of your final year at university studying the Social Work qualification (i.e. MA or BA in Social Work, Dip SW CQSW or CSS or equivalent). Newly qualified applicants will be held on SCP28 (£37,938) pending successful completion of your ASYE.
You must have an understanding of the Care Act 2014, Safeguarding Adults Legislation Policy, The Mental Health Act (amended 2007), The Mental Capacity Act 2005, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and Continuing Health Care and section 117. Along with the ability to interpret Social Care Legislation and apply it to practice whilst adhering to the Local Authority statutory responsibilities.
You will have an understanding of current issues in social work practice. You should have excellent communication and the ability to use IT systems. It is also important that you have a commitment to equal opportunities, anti-oppressive practice, and inter‑agency working.
You must have a current driving licence and access to a car or mobility support.
