JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Intelligence Support Officer
SCALE: Scale 3
SUPERVISION AND CONTROL: Senior Criminal Intelligence Analyst
HOURS OF WORK: 37
PLACE OF WORK: To work across the county but with the main hubs at FHQ and the NAB
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To provide information/data management and broad administrative and research support within the
Proactive Crime and Intelligence department (primarily to the Intelligence Officer, Assistant
Criminal Intelligence Analyst and Intelligence Management Team roles).
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsibility for Intelligence Duty workstreams, tasks and inboxes, undertaking a range of
administrative and research workstreams, to assist Proactive Crime and Intelligence in meeting its
objectives. This includes supporting the daily briefing process, completing information
requests/data returns, running data queries and consequent data updates/cleansing, updating
NICHE and disseminating information from internal and external information requests.
2. Administrative support for the Disruption Moderation process in Force and the APMIS system,
exporting/cleansing information and conducting associated research to appropriately grade the
disruption level. Support Proactive Crime and Intelligence Department with the cleansing and
maintenance of Criminal Organisation data within NICHE, maintaining a high level of data integrity.
3. To receive and assess information and to maintain Police Crime and Intelligence record
management systems (NICHE), ensuring that there is an effective record management. Receive queries
as first point of contact, maintaining confidentiality to ensure queries and requests are dealt
with efficiently and effectively.
4. Undertake system checks and searches, across a range of platforms, including to verify and
cross-reference validity of information to identify and communicate links between different pieces
of information, where required, to support colleagues in the intelligence (FIB/IMT) and criminal
intelligence analytical functions.
5. Develop/create/maintain briefings which have a clear purpose of either imparting information or
generating operational activity to support and ongoing operations and aid
with achievement of Force policing objectives/priorities.
6. Disseminate intelligence/ information, where required, in line with Force and National
standards, to support ongoing operations and aid with achievement of Force policing
objectives/priorities.
7. Identify threat, harm, risk and opportunity for interventions, and to escalate to the
appropriate person promptly for further action to support operations and live-time operational
activities.
8. Develop relationships with colleagues and team members to further operational awareness of roles
and to support partnership working.
9. Adhere to all legal frameworks, key working principles, policies and guidance relevant to the
role. This should include MOPI and data Review, Retention and Disposal.
10. Ability to obtain Intelligence Professionalisation Programme Accreditation within 18 months of
appointment.
NOTE:
The job description reflects the major tasks to be carried out by the post holder and identifies a
level of responsibility at which the post holder will be required to work. In the interests of
effective working any major tasks may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changing needs and
circumstances. Such reviews and other consequential changes will be carried out in consultation
with the post holder. The post holder will be also required to carry out such other duties as may
be determined from time to time to be within the general scope of the post.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE:
The appointment will be full time and subject to the conditions of service of the Police Staff
Council. The annual leave entitlement is 25 days with a further 5 days after 3 years continuous
service.
PERSON SPECIFICATION - ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
1. Good standard of education with minimum of GSCE grades A-C (or equivalent) including English or
other relevant qualifications and/or applicable experience including research skills and the
ability to handle and collate information.
2. Ability to successfully handle flexible and multiple workstreams by prioritising/planning own
work, managing own time effectively to meet objectives and deadlines and identifying risk.
3. Proven ability to maintain high levels of accuracy whilst working under minimum supervision and
on own initiative. Experience of checking, recording and retrieving information from a range of
information sources (including databases and inboxes).
4. Good communication skills with the ability to listen to others and transmit and receive
information effectively. The ability to communicate with all levels on a regular basis with good
use of diplomacy using a variety of communication methods including written and verbal.
5. Good team working skills demonstrating awareness of individual differences and providing support
as required.
6. Ability to observe and apply data standards and protocols, and to be familiar with relevant
legislation pertaining to the role (in particular the Data Protection Act, Criminal Procedure and
Investigations Act and Human Rights Act).
7. Computer literate with proven working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word and
PowerPoint) and IT packages, systems and/or databases to enter, record, and retrieve information
effectively.
8. Considers and shows respect for the opinions, circumstances and feelings of colleagues and
members of the public, in accordance with the protected characteristics under the Equality Act
2010.
9. High levels of integrity and the proven ability to handle confidential information.
10. Ability to travel to, and work from, alternative locations as required.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
1. Previous experience within a law enforcement or Intelligence environment
2. Knowledge of Northamptonshire Police computer systems including NICHE.
3. Good understanding of the National Intelligence Model including MoPI.
4. Possession of a full driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Recruitment and Selection Policy

Although Police internal vacancies are open to OPFCC staff and vice versa, if you are successful, the change of employer will require a longer onboarding process and you will receive a new contract and payroll number. Service with either employer can be carried over as continuous service.

Individuals placed on the Police Barred and Advisory lists will not be considered for employment by the Police and OPFCC for a minimum of 5 years from the date of listing in the case of gross misconduct, or 3 years from the date of listing in the case of poor performance.
