Prepares and dispenses medication orders for patients. Reviews patient profile for allergies and adverse reactions. Evaluates orders for drug-drug interactions, accuracy in drug selection, dose, and frequency. Discusses questionable medication orders with Attending Physicians. Ensures correct compounding and mixing of special formulas, chemotherapy, and sterile IV products. Provides drug information to patients, nurses, physicians, trainees, and other employees. Adheres to all legal and professional requirements for narcotics and controlled substances. Supervises, mentors, and assists in training pharmacy technicians, interns, and new pharmacists. Requirements include two (2) years of hospital experience with unit dose, IV additive, chemotherapy, and computerization preferred; B.S. Degree/Pharm D in Pharmacy from an accredited school; M.S. Degree a plus; licensed in Massachusetts; Board Certification preferred. Beth Israel Lahey Health requires all staff to be vaccinated against influenza and COVID-19 as a condition of employment.
