Main duties of the job
The post holder is a Pharmacy Technician and is an integral part of the general practice team, working within their professional boundaries. This role will work under the supervision of the Clinical Lead Pharmacist & the Clinical Partners to ensure the safe, accurate and timely supply of prescribed medication to patients.
They will provide technical and administrative support to the clinicians.
The Pharmacy Technician will support the organisations clinical teams with queries regarding medication from patients.
The Pharmacy Technician will complete audits regarding patient safety in the prescribing of medication and present the information for sharing with the clinical team.

Job responsibilities
Primary Key Responsibilities:
The Pharmacy Technician isto assume the following key responsibilities in delivering health services.
a.Undertakepatient facing and patient supporting roles to ensure effective medicines usethrough shared decision-making conversations with patients
b.Conductmedicine optimisation tasks including effective medicine administration (e.g.,checking inhaler technique), support medication reviews and medicinesreconciliation. When required, utilise consultation skills to work inpartnership with patients to ensure they use their medicines effectively
c.Support,as determined by the organisation, medication reviews and medicinesreconciliation for new care home patients and synchronise medicines for patienttransfers between care settings and linking with local community pharmacists
d.Providespecialist expertise, when competent, to address both the public health andsocial care needs of patients including lifestyle advice, service informationand help in tackling local health inequalities
e.Maintaina central role in the clinical aspects of shared care protocols and liaise withspecialist pharmacists for more complex patients
f.Supportinitiatives for antimicrobial stewardship to reduce inappropriate
antibiotic prescribing
g.Assistin the delivery of medicines optimisation and management incentive
schemes and patient safetyaudits
h.Supportthe implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance within GPpractices, care homes and other primary care settings. This will be achievedthrough undertaking clinical audits (e.g., use of antibiotics), supportingquality improvement measures and contributing to the Quality and OutcomesFramework and enhanced services
i.Attenda formal appraisal with your manager at least every 12 months. Once aperformance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on aregular basis so that new objectives can be agreed
Technical and administrativeresponsibilities:
The technical andadministrative responsibilities of the Pharmacy Technician:
a. Work with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure efficientmedicines optimisation including implementing efficient ordering and returnprocesses and reducing wastage
b. Supervise practice reception teams in sorting and streaminggeneral prescription requests so as to allow GPs and Clinical Pharmacist toreview the more clinically complex requests
c. Provide leadership for medicines optimisation systems with arange of services to get the best value from medicines by encouraging andimplementing electronic prescriptions, safe repeat prescribing systems andtimely monitoring and management of high-risk medicines
d. Provide training and support on the legal, safe and securehandling of medicines, including the implementation of the ElectronicPrescription Service (EPS)
e. Develop relationships with other Pharmacy Technicians,Pharmacists and members of the multi-disciplinary team within the PCN, or widerafield within the locality to support the integration of the pharmacy teamacross health and social care including primary care, community pharmacy,secondary care and mental health
f. Support the delivery of QOF, incentive schemes, QIPP andother quality or cost effectiveness initiatives
g. Undertake any tasks consistent with the level of the postand the scope of the role, ensuring that work is delivered in a timely andeffective manner
h. Duties may vary from time to time without changing thegeneral character of the post or the level of responsibility
i. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out othertasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffinglevels.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* a) GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
* b) Meets the specific qualification and training requirements as specified by the GPhC criteria to register as a Pharmacy Technician
* c) Enrolled in, undertaking or qualified from, an approved training pathway. For example, the Primary Care Pharmacy Educational Pathway (PCPEP)
* a) Experience working in a primary care setting
* b) Understanding and knowledge of healthcare provision in GP practices, QOF and enhanced services
* c) Good clinical system IT knowledge of EMIS & Docman
