About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a talented, creative, and motivated individual to join our team. Reporting to a Senior Design Manager, you will use your design skills to produce high quality book cover designs for a wide range of our non-fiction hardback and paperback books. There will also be the opportunity to create marketing materials and contribute to design concepts for other group projects, including branding and digital. You will work collaboratively with the design team and other functions, including Editorial, Production, and Marketing.
This is a 6-month fixed term contract with the possibility of extension. We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.
About You
The successful candidate will be a creative thinker with a passion for publishing and able to demonstrate high quality book cover design in their portfolio. We welcome applications from candidates who haven’t yet had the opportunity to work in publishing, but anticipate that your portfolio will showcase your interest and skills in book cover design through student work and/or self-directed projects. You should possess strong organizational and communication skills as well as the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Strong typography and layout skills are essential, as is the ability to manage many projects at the same time to deadlines. You will be fully proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Cloud applications. You can adapt your design style to suit different audiences and genres.
The ideal candidate will have:
1. Experience in Graphic Design, preferably with a specialism in Typography.
2. Good knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat).
3. Good knowledge of Microsoft Office software within a MAC environment.
4. Good understanding and experience of the publishing process and production techniques.
5. Experience of producing high quality design for print.
6. Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
7. Ability to manage busy workload and work efficiently to strict deadlines.
8. A high level of attention to detail and self-motivation.
