Main Responsibilities and Duties:The duties may include:1 To complete training in the roles and responsibilities of the examinations invigilator as stated in the Guidance for Invigilators instructions, as provided by the ExaminationsOfficer and the Examination Boards, and to be aware of centre specific instructions of the conduct of examinations such as evacuation routes and protocols for use in emergency situations.2 To assist with the setting up of examination venues by moving papers and equipment from their secure location to the examination room. Laying out stationery, equipment and examination papers in the allocated examination room in accordance with published guidelines.3 To liaise with the Examinations Officer to determine any particular requirements for subject examinations and to ensure appropriate preparation of the examination room, as required by the individual exam. To supervise the admission of the candidate to the examination room and to help them find their allocate seats quietly and efficiently.4 To collect and store mobile phones, in a secure place, away from the candidates.5 To complete an attendance register.6 To distribute questions papers, answer booklets and associated material at the beginning of the examination.7 To assist in the efficient timekeeping of the examination ensuring a clock is visible to all candidates in each examination room and that exam board instructions to candidates are displayed in line with legal requirements.8 To supervise the candidates in a quiet and unobtrusive manner to ensure that the regulations on conduct, communication, etc. are strictly observed. Invigilators will be expected to move around the room at regular intervals and position themselves to observe candidates in an area of the room.9 To respond to candidates’ queries in accordance with examination regulations.10 To distribute equipment and/or additional paper as necessary.11 At the end of the examination collect the completed scripts and all associated stationery for return to secure storage prior to dispatch to the appropriate examination board.12 To oversee the dismissal of candidates in a quiet and orderly manner.Facts and Figures:The school has approximately 989 pupils on roll.Sports Hall invigilation will involve whole year groups (approx. 190 pupils) as part of a team.The main bulk of the examinations take place in May and June but there are smaller numbers of examinations in November.SUPPORTING PROCESSESa. Problem Solving and Creativity:Need to manage large numbers of pupils.b. Decision Making:Ability to make straightforward management decisions within the guidelines outlined in relation to staff and pupils.c. Physical Effort and Working Conditions:Significant periods of time spent on their feet (up to 3 hours at a time).Movement of large bundles of examination papers.d. Contacts and Relationships:Contact with Examination Officer, Senior Invigilator, Invigilators and pupils.e.
