Job Description:
What is the Role?
Shell Southern North Sea is a late life asset that has been operating for nearly 60 years. The asset includes an onshore gas terminal (Bacton), 2 x manned production installations (Clipper and Leman A), 19 x normally unmanned installations (NUIs), a Walk to Work (W2W) vessel and a mobile unit in combined operations performing ongoing D&R work.
Your principal role will be to provide independent technical advice, to help the asset ensure that the facilities are designed and operated on in a manner where the risks are reduced to a level which is as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP). To do this you will work closely with a broad cross section of the organisation, including other discipline engineers, project teams, operations and maintenance teams.
This role will be office based in Gt Yarmouth and includes regular visits to offshore locations and Bacton.
What we need from you
The role will be a technical authority and recognized subject matter expert in metallurgy. The role is a senior individual contributor and is expected to operate with minimal direct supervision, using their own initiative and technical judgement to provide structured advice, solve problems, make effective decisions, and priorities workload appropriately.
Accountabilities:
* Materials & Corrosion Technical Authority, providing technical assurance within the operated asset including management of change for modifications and projects.
* Develop and implement an effective Corrosion Management Framework to support the asset to improve the health of the Process Containment barrier.
* You will play a key role in the management of risks associated with sand and erosion.
* You will play a key role in supporting the leadership team with Asset Integrity & Process Safety Management (AI-PSM), including monitoring and auditing.
* You will work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines that have equipment made of steel to improve the end-to-end processes for the management of asset integrity, including inspection, mechanical static, pipelines, structural and fabric maintenance.
* You will provide a learner mindset to bridge the gap and improve independencies between these disciplines regarding proactive materials management to prevent loss of containment, loss of value and other risks such as dropped objects.
* You will provide coaching and SME guidance/support to engineers across all other disciplines.
* You will play a key role in supporting the organization to investigate & learn from loss of containment incidents or serious degradation issues to improve the end-to-end processes and prevent repeated occurrences.
* You will play a key role in managing the independent verification scheme for offshore installation. You will support the organization with the strategic review of SECE verification findings including trends analysis to identify opportunities to improve performance and barrier health. You will be a contract holder for the verification body.
* Execute field visits and audits focusing on specific asset integrity related topics.
* Promote and actively support the implementation of Regulatory, Industry, and Shell HSE standards, including simplification of company procedures and work instructions.
What you bring
* Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering or equivalent. A post graduate qualification in a metallurgical/mechanical related subject would be an advantage
* Technically experienced enough to act as the Materials & Corrosion Technical Authority for the asset
* Fully conversant with relevant UK industry requirements, standards, and guidance
* Extensive years of experience in the (upstream) oil & gas industry
* The role holder will be a key change agent, responsible for enabling and embedding an improved management system. The ability to influence, build alignment, and take others with you will be essential to success
* Flexible in terms of work location, willing to travel. Regular trips to Bacton gas terminal and offshore production facilities are an essential dimension of the job
* Able to interface directly with regulatory bodies (e.g. the Health & Safety Executive) on Materials & Corrosion topics
* Ability to set clear priorities and identify conflicting issues that require escalation or additional support
* A passion to improve performance and achieve No Leaks
* Excellent interpersonal skills, external focus and a passion for engagement both internally and externally
* Excellent Analytical skills to distil asset integrity risks and ensure the validity of data
* Experience of auditing and incident investigation would be beneficial
* Fluency in English is required
