Sustainability Manager Location: Oldham, Hybrid, 37 hours per weekReporting to: Head of Asset Investment StrategyContract: PermanentSalary: £55,100 Improving lives in Oldham First Choice Homes Oldham have an exciting opportunity for a Sustainability Manager to join our Asset Investment Strategy team and play a key role in leading our sustainability, energy efficiency and carbon reduction work across our homes. You’ll lead the delivery of sustainability objectives within our Homes Strategy, helping us provide affordable, low-carbon homes and make a lasting difference for our customers, communities and the environment. The impact you’ll make You’ll be our in-house expert on sustainability, leading activity that improves the energy performance of our homes, reduces carbon, supports customers and helps us meet our long-term environmental commitments. You’ll manage a small team and work closely with colleagues across Assets, Investment Delivery, Asset Planning, Customer Liaison, Communications and other teams to turn our sustainability ambitions into clear, practical action. You will: Lead the delivery of sustainability, energy efficiency and carbon reduction objectives across FCHO’s homes. Manage the sustainability elements of the Homes Strategy, associated action plans and working groups. Oversee EPC surveys, retrofit assessments, thermography surveys and energy performance improvement recommendations. Lead or support low-carbon and sustainability projects across existing homes, refurbishment, new build and specialist works. Identify and secure external funding for energy efficiency and carbon reduction activity. Work with colleagues, contractors, manufacturers, local authorities and partners to deliver sustainable outcomes. Maintain accurate sustainability asset data and use insight to support investment planning and decision-making Produce performance, compliance and accreditation reports, including SHIFT, SECR and ESOS. Manage sustainability-related contracts, including EPC and retrofit assessment providers. Support customer and stakeholder engagement, helping residents understand and benefit from sustainability projects. Lead sustainability training and campaigns, including Carbon Literacy and energy efficiency awareness. Our ideal candidate You’ll be an experienced sustainability professional who is passionate about improving homes, reducing carbon and delivering meaningful environmental change. You’ll be confident working with asset data, energy performance information, funding requirements, contractors and internal stakeholders. You’ll also be able to translate complex information into clear recommendations, reports and action plans. You will have: Experience working in a sustainability role. Experience managing and leading a team. Knowledge of relevant sustainability legislation, carbon reporting and energy efficiency requirements. Awareness of Greater Manchester’s carbon reduction targets. Good market awareness of renewable energy options, sustainability initiatives and carbon reduction approaches. Experience managing projects, contractors and third-party relationships. Experience writing or preparing funding bids. Experience developing and leading working groups. Strong analytical, problem-solving and prioritisation skills. The ability to build strong relationships with colleagues, customers and external partners. A continuous improvement mindset and the confidence to bring forward new ideas. It would also be great if you have: A degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, environmental management, engineering or sustainability. Experience working in social housing, or the ability to navigate a housing environment and work collaboratively to deliver practical outcomes for customers and communities Experience implementing effective risk management or health and safety approaches. You’ll also need a full, clean driving licence and be willing to complete a DBS check. Why join FCHO?
