As a Volunteer Patient Safety Partner (PSP), you will play an important role in helping Independent Health Group (IHG) deliver safer, more effective care. You will work alongside staff and patients to ensure that the patient voice is heard in decisions about safety and quality. This role involves attending meetings, contributing to discussions, and helping shape improvements in patient care.
The role is suitable for all individuals with a broad interest in patient experience / safety.
You will be reimbursed for reasonable expenses and receive a payment for attending meetings as part of your involvement in the role.

Job responsibilities
General Tasks
* Gather and share patient feedback to inform safety discussions
* Represent the views of patients, families, and carers in line with national safety frameworks

* Support and participate in patient safety projects
* Occasionally travel to Head Office (expenses reimbursed)
* Help shape the role as the organisation evolves

Skills and experience
* A strong interest in patient safety and experience
* Clear written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to understand and interpret reports and data
* Confidence to speak with staff at all levels
* Ability to represent broader patient perspectives
* Experience in health advocacy or service improvement is beneficial
Training
* Mandatory training will be provided
* An named staff member will offer induction, guidance, and ongoing support

* Commit to approximately one day per month (can be split across days)
* Raise any concerns with staff for appropriate support
* Engage fully with the role and follow IHG policies and procedures
* Maintain confidentiality and uphold data protection standards

* Bring in wider community perspectives to inform decisions
* Help identify and promote proactive improvements in patient safety

Experience
* Experience as a service user of broader healthcare services
* Experience as a service user of IHG

* Good communication skills and an ability to advocate for patient safety and wellbeing
* An ability to ask questions, and to work collaboratively with staff and other PSPs, to help develop a safe and patient-orientated organisation
* Ability to provide a patient, carer, or lay person perspective and to put forward views on behalf of the wider community/groups of patients (not their own opinion only)
* Commitment to maintaining high standards, with a commitment to being open and honest
* Ability to plan time to prepare for meetings and undertake any other activities required as part of the role
* Ability to undertake training as required
* An understanding of the importance of confidentiality, safeguarding and equality and diversity
* Sound judgement and an ability to be objective
* An open and honest outlook
* Willingness to listen and to question with an objective viewpoint
* Ability to reflect the different perspectives within the community and act as a voice for patients
