Stamford School have a highly-rewarding opportunity to join them as a Deputy Houseparent (DHP). The Deputy Houseparent role covers a wide variety of responsibilities depending on the needs and requirements of students on the day so if you enjoy variety in your role, this could be a great fit for you.

This is a full time, non-teaching, strategic pastoral role at Stamford School, underpinning the provision of outstanding welfare support for boarding students, in support of the Houseparent. The specialist role prioritises the pastoral wellbeing, safety and good discipline of all pupils in the House alongside efficiently managing the staffing, organisation and resources. The post gives support and training to progress to a Houseparent in time.

The duties of the DHP will be wide and varied and this job description is not intended to cover every area of responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

* In collaboration with the Houseparent, work closely with other staff in the House to provide comprehensive and holistic pastoral care to create a supportive environment where boarders feel safe and valued.
* Regularly meet with Student Support Managers and Heads of Year to proactively discuss and manage the welfare of boarders, facilitating interventions, support strategies and guidance as necessary.
* Be aware of the implications of and ensure adherence to the Children Act 1989/2004 and the National Minimum Standards for Boarding schools regarding welfare and pastoral care in the Boarding House.
* Provide administrative support to the Houseparent to assist in the running of the House, ensure compliance and maximise operational efficiencies.
* Actively and frequently communicate with parents on all matters relating to the care and welfare of boarders.
* Supporting the Houseparent in meeting UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) compliance for all international and sponsored students.
* Under the guidance and direction of the Houseparent, take lead responsibility for all medical requirements of the House, prioritising the physical and mental wellbeing of pupils.
* Conduct house meetings, student forums, prefect meetings and staff meetings as requested.
* To deal with disciplinary problems in a firm but caring manner and to liaise with the Boarding Houseparent, Senior Houseparent and the Senior Deputy Head in any matter of serious concern.
* Be fully conversant with the School's Health & Safety Policy and report any breaches of the policy to the Houseparent.
* Demonstrate a full knowledge of the School's safeguarding policy and current legislation relating to DFE safeguarding policy, as defined in the government policy Keeping Children Safe in Education.

As Deputy Houseparent you will be required to reside in allocated boarding accommodation during term time, and specifically all duty evenings. If you do not wish to be in residence during time off, or during non-term time holiday periods, you are required to notify the Houseparent. Full board and lodgings during term time will be provided, free of charge, other than a tax charge as a benefit in kind.

Essential Criteria

* Experience of working with children and young people, preferably in a residential setting.
* Genuine concern for pupils' well-being and their personal development.
* Actively engaged without discrimination or favouritism.
* Prepared to work unsociable hours, often in emergencies and at short notice.
* Communicate with clarity and positively with students, parents and colleagues.
* BSA accredited, or willing to obtain, relevant to the scope of the role.
* Minibus driving experience and willingness to obtain MIDAS accreditation preferably.
