Overview
Part time fixed term opportunity (30 hours per week) for 18 months on Danby Ward at Cross Lane Hospital, Scarborough, to support our male patients within our acute adult mental health inpatient unit. The successful candidates would cover 12 hour shifts, including nights, long days, weekends and bank holidays.
The post holder should be positive and passionate about the care of those with acute mental health needs and willing to undertake personal development and training to improve knowledge and skills in this area of care.
We offer varied training opportunities and regularly hold in-house training sessions to support our team and individual development.
Main duties
Danby Ward is a 13 bedded male acute ward with a multi-disciplinary team including nurses, healthcare assistants, medics, psychology, activity co-ordinators and occupational therapists. The role involves supporting patients in their recovery and helping them gain skills to live independently, within a busy and sometimes challenging environment.
The successful candidate will empower and support patients to aid their recovery in their mental health needs and provide assistance in equipping them with skills for independent living.
Qualifications, experience and training
* Essential: Diploma in Health and Social Care level 2 or equivalent (or Trainee level 2) to be achieved within 2 years of commencement in post.
* Essential: Care Certificate or Trainee Care Certificate must be achieved within 12 weeks of commencement in post.
* Essential: Literacy and Numeracy level 2.
* Essential: Successful completion of the Trust's full HCA Framework within 6 months of probationary period.
* Essential: Trainee status: successful completion of the Trust's full HCA Framework within 2 years of commencement in post.
* Experience: Previous experience as a Band 2/3 HCA or equivalent in a care environment (Trainee post: no essential experience required).
* Desirable: Previous experience of working with people with mental or social health needs.
* Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills.
* Desirable: Competency in ECG and venepuncture.
Other requirements
You must have the Right to Work in the UK. This role does not meet eligibility criteria for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa.
