Job Title: Intern - Materials Engineer

Location: Yeovil

Role Type: Sandwich degree 12-month placement

Job Summary:

As a Materials Engineering Intern at Honeywell Aerospace Yeovil, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop your skills in materials and special processes for aerospace applications. This internship offers a great learning opportunity for candidates with a strong materials and chemistry background and an interest in pursuing a career in materials engineering.

This is a hybrid role, 3 days at the office + 2 days work from home model, but you will start the role fulltime in the office, for us to support your learning, and be expected to work from the office during training and for certain projects.

This role is part of our University Relations program, designed to help students and recent graduates launch their careers with hands-on experience, mentorship, and opportunities for growth within Honeywell. This internship is set up for those studying a sandwich degree, so is circa 12 months internship starting at in the summer break of 2026, with the possibility of a permanent role one you graduate in 2028.

Key responsibilities:

You will work closely with experienced professionals to gain hands-on experience within a friendly and supportive team to be trained to achieve the following:

1. Work on new and existing aerospace products
2. Support various aspects of materials engineering, including materials laboratory evaluations, assisting in investigating non-conformances, participating in hardware design and re-design projects, evaluating alternative and obsolete materials, and assisting in assessing the performance and compliance of the supply chain
3. Interface and collaborate with multiple internal and external stakeholders, including Design, Stress, Performance Engineering, Materials Laboratory, Project Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Production, Procurement, Sourcing, other Honeywell Aerospace sites, external suppliers, and OEM manufacturers
4. Assist in maintaining documentation relating to materials and processes requirements

Key skills and qualifications:

5. Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field, that requires a yearlong industry placement in 2026
6. Some experience in materials engineering and special processes, (from the workplace, internship, your degree, or a hobby)
7. Basic knowledge of environmental regulations, including REACh, TSCA, etc.
Business level communication skills, both written and verbal, in English
8. Able to commute with ease to our Yeovil office
