Deputy Ward Manager - Learning Disabilities Service
We are looking for a permanent and full-time Deputy Ward Manager (Band 6) to our Assessment and Treatment Unit. We are looking for someone with a clinical background in learning disabilities with previous experience of team leadership both, operationally and clinically. The ideal candidate will support the Ward Manager in the management and clinical leadership of the nursing and multi-disciplinary team to ensure care is delivered which is person centred and meets standards for Quality and Safety, in partnership with service users and carers.
We are seeking a highly motivated, organised and skilled Deputy who will be responsible for the delivery of care and for the supervision of others who are carrying out all aspects of the caring process. You will assist in setting and maintaining standards of care, will participate in maintaining effective management of the team and unit, meeting performance standards and able to maintain effective integration with the multi-disciplinary team and assist with the facilitation of a collaborative approach to patient focussed care.
As Deputy to the Ward Manager, the expectation is that the successful candidate be flexible and able to cover shift working to include some management days for operational duties, and able to step up for planned and unplanned absences.
The role of the deputy ward manager is to provide support and assistance to the ward manager in ensuring the effective management and running of the service. This will include having specific responsibilities as delegated by the ward manager and will require the post holder to deputise for the ward manager as and when appropriate/required.
Key Duties / Responsibilities
* To act as a clinical lead influencing and developing all aspects of clinical care within the area and implementing clinical governance plans.
* Co-ordinate care delivery, e.g. allocations of named nurse/name worker/care co-ordinator, ensuring continuity of care across shifts, staffing changes & absences etc.
* To demonstrate the application of appropriate procedures and standards.
* To assist in the general management of the clinical area, this may include specific duties such as responsibilities for completing duty sheets, maintaining staff absence cards or supervising systems for monitoring resources (e.g. keys) as agreed with the clinical manager.
