Head of Transport Strategy and Programmes
Fixed Term Contract or Secondment Opportunity – Maternity Cover for 9-month
PO9: Starting salary £73,266 per annum incl LW
About the Team
You’ll be leading a dynamic, award‑winning team responsible for driving forward ambitious infrastructure and behaviour change programmes. We have a record of developing ground‑breaking policy such as the Kerbside Strategy and work with colleagues across the Council to shape, sponsor and deliver changes to our streets that deliver equitable, healthy, sustainable outcomes for residents.
About the Role
As part of a maternity cover for 9 months, you will plan and coordinate our transformative Healthy Streets programme focused on active travel and public transport, re‑imagining our streets and spaces to make them ‘fit for the future’, prioritising people over traffic, road danger reduction over speed and delivering fairer, more accessible places. Working closely with the climate change team, engineering, highways, parking, regeneration and others, you will provide leadership and play a leading role in the de‑carbonisation of our borough, delivering on the Council’s climate, transport and health priorities.
Key Responsibilities
* Have experience of leading a multi‑disciplinary team in developing and implementing strategies covering transport and public realm interventions.
* Have the vision to enable the delivery of future transport and public realm interventions in Lambeth, improving the quality of life for all the borough’s residents and diverse communities, ensuring the Council is recognised as a leader and innovator in the field.
* Show the ability to work collaboratively and coordinate the multi‑faced activities of a range of internal and external stakeholders across departments, business units and disciplines, championing innovative ways of working.
* Show evidence of team building skills and a commitment to inclusion, equity and social justice.
* Demonstrate leadership and authority as the Council’s visible senior point of contact for key external stakeholders and members.
