Internal Redeployment Only - Research Site Co-Ordinating Manager Division of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neurosciences Cardiff University School of Medicine College of Biomedical and Life Sciences This is an exciting opportunity to take on the new role as the Research Site Co-ordinating Manager for the CONNECT study in Cardiff University. This is a multi-site Wellcome Trust funded project which aims to identify relapse signatures using active and passive digital monitoring and data collection methods. The post holder will manage all aspects of the project for the study site for recruitment across Wales, liaise with the local and national project leads, researchers, patient and public contributors, and the co-ordinating centre in Manchester as well as manage two research assistants. Candidates with an interest in digital mental health and psychosis are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates should have clinical research management experience, understand mixed-methods studies, have skills in psychological assessment including digital monitoring and the assessment of relapse in psychosis, be able to demonstrate project management skills as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The successful applicant will join the Division of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neurosciences in Cardiff University and become a member of the psychosis research group and National Centre for Mental Health. Job Purpose Support the University within the Division of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neurosciences, carrying out supporting work, providing advice, guidance and support, and leading the co-ordination of the CONNECT study. Duties and Responsibilities Key Duties • Be responsible for co-ordinating and managing all aspects of the Cardiff University study site, under direct supervision of the Cardiff principal investigator, Professor James Walters, planning, organising and delegating work, monitoring progress of the grant and intervening as required. • Contribute to the long term management of the department/school, interpreting school/directorate strategies into work priorities. • Manage the performance and development of the CONNECT research team in Cardiff University. • Support and guide team members in welfare issues, escalating as necessary to specialist support areas. • Ensure the delivery of the team’s service level agreements, adapting these according to changes in workload and customer requirements. • Develop networks across the department and school to ensure the success of the team’s objectives and long term plans. • Make recommendations for developments of established processes and procedures and manage their implementation and maintenance where appropriate. • Undertake the training of others in areas relating to the team’s work. • Undergo personal and professional development that is appropriate to, and which will enhance, performance. • Gather and analyse data to inform decisions, establishing basic trends and patterns in data and creating reports as appropriate. Specific Duties • Work closely with the Manchester-based Project Manager and the other study site research co-ordinators, and supervise two full-time equivalent research workers. • Manage the research project with the responsibility for ensuring effective processes are in place for governance, ethics, recruitment, assessments and procedures, data entry and data management for the site. • Oversee the day-to-day supervision, training and management of site research workers and ensure they achieve the target recruitment and follow-up assessments. • Promote and co-ordinate recruitment of participants for the study site from partner NHS Trusts and from existing research resources. • Undertake protocol-based assessments, including self-report measures, rating scales, semi-structured interviews with service users and healthcare professionals, and extraction of relevant data from medical records. • Monitor data quality including reliability checks and ensure data are recorded and stored in accordance with study procedures and following Good Clinical Practice standards and ethical procedures. • Prepare reports and other documents for project meetings. • Participate actively in multi-disciplinary meetings, steering groups, Involvement and other forums as appropriate. • Work alongside the project team across all sites in a collegiate manner. • Support and promote patient and public involvement across the whole project. • Work flexibly for the benefit of the project and as required. • Travel to different sites where appropriate and for the benefit of the project. • Comply with Divisional and other policies concerning security, safety and patient confidentiality and to ensure that procedures are carried out with the safe systems work Additional Information Job Description Continued General Duties • Ensure that an understanding of the importance of confidentiality is applied when undertaking all duties • Abide by University policies on Health and Safety and Equality and Diversity • Perform other duties occasionally which are not included above, but which will be consistent with the role How we will support you in performing in this role – There are some things that you must have before you can start this role (see ‘Essential Criteria’), but other things can be developed either through training, or just by general on-the-job experience.
