Lead Civil Design Engineer
Location: ScottishPower HQ, Glasgow
Full Time / Permanent
Salary up to £76,000 per year + excellent benefits package

The Role
Provide technical support and specialist advice on civil engineering issues related to transmission and distribution networks. Engage closely with the SPT Projects and SPM 132kV teams, offering engineering guidance and policy advice across various disciplines.
Responsibilities
* Prioritize safety, quality, and environmental standards in all duties.
* Develop and evaluate feasible engineering solutions and prepare budget estimates for complex civil projects.
* Create policies, strategies, and specifications for civil engineering, ensuring compliance with legal and license requirements and optimal asset utilization.
* Review technical specifications to meet technical and financial criteria.
* Offer technical guidance on the design, construction, and operation of transmission and distribution networks.
* Stay updated with industry best practices and technological advances, assessing their integration into business operations.
* Lead technical aspects of price reviews to ensure robustness of submissions.
* Provide specialist knowledge to support Processes & Technology, Licenses, and the Iberdrola Group.
* Review standards and specifications regularly to reflect legislative and business changes.
Skills and Requirements
* Motivated individual with proven experience in a responsible civil engineering role.
* Deep knowledge of civil engineering related to voltages from 33kV to 400kV.
* Understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration across departments and with stakeholders.
* Commercial experience and familiarity with various contract types.
* Knowledge of the energy industry’s structure and legal/contractual frameworks.
* Familiarity with Energy Networks policies, procedures, and practices.
* Expertise in network and business data management systems.
* Ability to develop robust engineering solutions considering quality, safety, inspection, maintenance, and lifecycle costs.
Minimum Criteria
* Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience.
* Significant hands-on experience in designing or delivering complex transmission and distribution projects.
* Proven ability to communicate effectively with technical specialists and senior management.
