ALN & Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant

Location: NP25
Contract Type: Full Time / Part Time
Pay: Weekly pay

Teaching Personnel are recruiting for an ALN & Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to work in a large and dynamic primary school in the NP25 area.

This is a challenging but highly rewarding role for someone who understands that behaviour is communication and who is committed to supporting pupils who need consistency, structure and belief.

The Role

* Work closely with pupils who present with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and behavioural challenges
* Act as a key adult, providing consistency, structure and emotional support
* Support pupils within the classroom, in small groups and on a 1:1 basis
* Help pupils access learning and remain engaged
* Support emotional regulation, confidence and independence
* Follow behaviour plans, risk assessments and specialist strategies
* Work collaboratively with teachers, ALN staff and senior leaders

You will be trusted, supported and valued as a key part of the school’s support structure.

The Pupils You’ll Support

You will work with pupils with a range of needs, including:

* Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
* ADHD
* Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
* Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
* Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
* Attachment and trauma-related needs
* Sensory processing differences

You will help pupils to:

* Access learning in the classroom
* Develop emotional regulation strategies
* Build confidence and independence
* Improve communication and social interaction
* Feel safe, understood and supported

Challenging Behaviour Experience

We are seeking individuals who do not take behaviour personally and who understand that pupils may communicate distress through behaviour.

You may support pupils who:

* Experience emotional dysregulation or meltdowns
* Display disruptive, avoidant or withdrawn behaviour
* Struggle with transitions and changes to routine
* Use inappropriate language
* Present with verbal or physical behaviours during heightened moments

You must be able to:

* Remain calm under pressure
* Use de-escalation strategies effectively
* Follow behaviour plans and risk assessments
* Set firm but fair boundaries
* Build positive, trusting relationships

Resilience is essential. Empathy is non-negotiable.

* Experienced Teaching Assistants
* Behaviour Support Workers
* Youth Workers or Care Workers transitioning into education
* Sports Coaches with strong behaviour management skills
* Candidates with a psychology or mental health background
* Individuals with strong character and a nurturing approach

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
