Job Title: Maintenance Manager
Location: South Buckinghamshire
Schedule: Monday to Friday (07:00 – 16:00 / 08:00 – 17:00)
On-call: 1 in 4 on-call rota
Overview
We are currently working with a leading Facilities Management provider to recruit a Maintenance Manager to support a key healthcare contract across Buckinghamshire.
This is a hands-on role within a small hospital estate where you will play a key part in maintaining safe, compliant, and efficient building services. You will help strengthen site controls, improve compliance standards, and support the development of a structured maintenance and subcontractor management approach.
The role requires someone who is steady, experienced, and capable of bringing structure, particularly around permit-to-work systems, subcontractor control, and compliance processes.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
* Carrying out reactive repairs, fault finding, servicing, commissioning, and maintenance across mechanical and electrical building services
* Managing a team of 4 engineers, providing day-to-day leadership, direction, and support
* Delivering Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) activities safely and efficiently
* Supporting and enforcing site compliance procedures, including permit-to-work systems and documentation control
* Managing subcontractors on site and ensuring works are properly controlled and signed off
* Ensuring permits and documentation are current, accurate, and properly closed out
* Supporting mobilisation and stabilisation of site maintenance processes
* Promoting and maintaining high standards of health & safety at all times
* Communicating effectively with supervisors and management regarding defects, risks, and required parts
* Participating in training and development, including progression toward Authorised Person responsibilities (training provided)
Candidate Profile
We are looking for someone who:
* Has a recognised Mechanical or Electrical apprenticeship (or equivalent structured training)
* Holds City & Guilds and/or BTEC qualifications in a relevant discipline
* Has experience in building services maintenance (healthcare experience preferred but not essential)
* Understands Authorised Person (AP) responsibilities and ideally has L8 Water Hygiene awareness
* Has previously worked as a supervisor, contract engineer, or similar level (not necessarily full management experience)
* Is confident managing subcontractors and implementing permit-to-work systems
* Is mature, steady, and able to operate independently without close supervision
* Has strong communication and organisational skills
Vetting and Checks
An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role, including spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and any relevant information held by local police, in line with safeguarding requirements. An Occupational Health Questionnaire will also be completed to ensure appropriate support is in place for you to succeed in the role.
