This is an exciting opportunity for you to join a well-established team of health care professionals dedicated to the care and treatment of oncology/haematology cancer patients.
This is a 2 year fixed term programme which offers the opportunity to work with existing oncology nursing teams to deliver excellent patient focused care. The ability to work flexibly within different tumour site teams will be essential as this post provides the opportunity to work for 3–4-month placements in the various CNS teams – ie breast, gynae, lung and rarer, upper GI, skin.
The skills and knowledge that will be developed as part of this programme will allow you to identify specialist areas of interest for a potential future in a cancer nurse specialist role, as opportunities for career development arise.
There will be education and training opportunities available, participation in clinical supervision and the associated benefits of being a Macmillan professional.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work with the Clinical Nurse Specialists and other senior nurses to deliver an excellent, patient focused service. The post holder will help to develop and provide specialist oncology nursing services within the cancer teams.
The post holder will work as part of the existing Oncology Nursing Teams to give advice and implement patient care in an area which requires specific specialist clinical knowledge. Ability to work flexibly within different tumour site teams will be essential.
This post holder will contribute to the development of clinical guidelines and the delivery of education programmes.
The post holder will be expected to rotate between different specialist teams across the Trust on an agreed rotational basis as part of a 2 year fixed term programme.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
1. Registered Nurse – 1st level with NMC
2. Relevant degree or working towards
3. Oncology cancer qualification/ module or working towards
4. Teaching/ training qualification and/ or substantial teaching experience
5. Advanced Communications Skills Course or willingness to undertake
6. Evidence of continuous professional development.
Desirable criteria
7. Chemotherapy qualification
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
8. Oncology/ palliative care experience
9. Experience of working within and/ or with multi-disciplinary teams.
10. Experience of working within and/ or with multi-disciplinary teams.
11. Experience in delivering and evaluating teaching programmes to health care professionals including medical staff.
12. Experience of and ability to work as an autonomous practitioner
Desirable criteria
13. Chemotherapy Experience at band 5 or above
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
14. Understanding and up to date knowledge of issues relevant to Oncology (cancer/ cancer treatment complications, palliative care and end of life care).
15. Awareness of key policies and national recommendations relating to Oncology cancers and the broader cancer, palliative and end of life care agenda.
16. Effective Interpersonal skills (including the use of advanced communication skills), To communicate sensitive information to patients and Carers in a variety of settings over the phone.
17. Self-motivated, pro-active and innovative
18. Ability to effectively provide peer support/ mentoring to support the raising of clinical standards
19. Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, respecting the skills and contributions of others.
20. Effective IT skills
