<div><h3>Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Contribute to the development of processes/procedures and monitor compliance with national standards of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC). This includes the Health and Social Care Act 2008: Code of Practice on the Prevention and Control of Infections, National Infection Prevention and Control Manual (NIPCM) and IPC Education Framework.</li><li>Provide specialist expert advice to prevent and control infections using evidence-based practice including outbreak management.</li><li>Support best practice in IPC at all times, professionally challenging as required.</li><li>Implement local and national guidance working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.</li><li>Surveillance, analysis and interpretation of infection data.</li><li>Education and training of staff and service users.</li><li>Participate in vaccination campaigns.</li><li>Audit clinical practice and the built environment.</li></ul><h3>Person Specification</h3><h3>Personal Qualities</h3><ul><li>Self‑motivated and proactive in approach to problem solving.</li><li>Able to prioritise and manage own workload.</li><li>Positive attitude with demonstrable qualities associated with the Trust values.</li><li>Able to travel between sites and work on a number of diverse projects simultaneously and meet required deadlines.</li><li>Able to work under pressure.</li><li>Commitment to improving patient safety and reducing Healthcare-Associated Infections.</li><li>Qualified Registered Nurse.</li><li>Recognised teaching qualification or equivalent experience of teaching.</li><li>BSc or postgraduate education in infection prevention and control or working towards one.</li></ul><h3>Desirable</h3><ul><li>Master’s level study in a related IPC subject or willingness to work towards it.</li><li>Infection Prevention Society (IPS) Competencies completed/working towards at this level.</li><li>Leadership qualification or working towards one.</li><li>Previous line‑management experience.</li><li>Involvement with research projects.</li><li>Experience of working as an IPCN in mental health/learning disability settings.</li></ul><h3>Skills & Abilities</h3><ul><li>Experience of writing policies or guidelines.</li><li>Experience of quality improvement and change initiatives.</li><li>Good IT skills and ability to navigate key systems such as Microsoft Office including Excel and PowerPoint.</li><li>Experience in report writing and presentation.</li><li>Audit and surveillance experience.</li><li>Data analysis and interpretation.</li><li>Ability to interpret, present and discuss complex information in accessible formats.</li><li>Demonstrable understanding of governance processes and contribution to these at a senior level.</li><li>Effectively articulate the contribution of IPC practice to patient and staff safety.</li><li>Demonstrates good leadership skills at all levels to clinical and non‑clinical staff.</li><li>Good communication and interpersonal skills through a range of mediums.</li><li>Ability to work autonomously and within a team.</li><li>Ability to develop positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.</li><li>Understand and interpret research, implementation of recommendations to improve IPC practice.</li><li>Sound knowledge of external sources of information and application to the service.</li></ul><h3>Experience & Knowledge</h3><ul><li>Comprehensive nursing experience in a variety of settings.</li><li>Recent considerable experience in IPC at Band 6 level or above.</li><li>Robust clinical knowledge and practice relating to IPC matters.</li><li>Designing, delivery and evaluation of educational teaching programmes.</li><li>Use of national and local policy/guidance to inform IPC practice.</li></ul></div>
