Position Summary : As part of a multidisciplinary R&D team, the Scientist I will contribute to the development of novel diagnostic assays by executing well-defined experimental work and generating high-quality data. The role focuses on building scientific capability through hands-on laboratory work, structured problem solving, and data analysis, while developing a clear understanding of the scientific rationale behind experimental approaches. Working within established methods and guidance, the Scientist I supports project delivery by ensuring reliable execution, accurate documentation, and effective communication of results. The role contributes to team learning cycles and experimental throughput, supporting timely progression of projects and enabling data-driven decisions. Responsibilities: Execute experimental procedures independently in line with defined protocols and project objectives Maintain high levels of data quality, integrity, and documentation to ensure results are review-ready and reproducible Analyse and summarise experimental data (e.g. graphs & basic statistics) to support interpretation and team discussions Apply basic troubleshooting techniques using established guidance and escalate more complex issues appropriately Develop understanding hypothesis-driven investigation and defined success criteria Participate actively in team meetings, sharing results, observations, and learnings Contribute to incremental improvements in methods, workflows, and laboratory practices Collaborate with colleagues to ensure timely completion of project activities and alignment with team objectives Ensure compliance with laboratory, quality, and regulatory requirements at all times Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: BSc (or equivalent, UK Level 6) in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g. Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, Immunology, Analytical Science or related field) OR Minimum of 2 years’ hands-on laboratory experience in a relevant industry (e.g. medical diagnostics, life sciences, or other regulated laboratory environment) At Thermo Fisher Scientific, each one of our 70,000 extraordinary minds has a unique story to tell.
