Job Title: Biodiversity Conservation Officers

Terms: Permanent 39 hours p/w.

Location: Heathrow Airport, Hillingdon, London

Salary: Up to £32,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Report to: Ecology & Habitat Management Director

Heathrow is more than just an airport. It holds an estate of 13 biodiversity sites located around the outside of the main airport area. Home to woodlands, grasslands, lakes, ponds, rivers, reedbeds, hedgerows, and scrub, covering some 170ha and home to over 4,200 species. All of which needs managing professionally.

This is an exciting opportunity to work for Europe’s busiest airport in a biodiversity management role helping to maintain the airport’s biodiversity sites. Heathrow airport currently manages these off-airport sites for the purpose of nature conservation, for which they have received The Wildlife Trusts’ Biodiversity Benchmark Award for over 15 years. The management of these sites is overseen by Ecology & Habitat Management (EHM) Ltd who provide services based at the airport.

We currently have a vacancy for a Biodiversity Conservation Officer (BCO). Working in close association with the other BCOs, Ecology Delivery Manager, as well as EHM Director and Heathrow Managers, the Biodiversity Conservation Officer will help deliver on-site management as well as developing community engagement activities.

We currently maintain a number of beehives on behalf of the airport the BCO will be expected to assist with their management, for which training will be provided if necessary.

You will be based at Heathrow airport and work closely with the existing Engineering Environmental team as well as local partners and stakeholders. Though this role will be largely field based it is there will be an element of office work.

There will also be an opportunity to assist on wider EHM ecology projects including Phase I habitat surveys, protected species surveys and Biodiversity Net Gain assessments.

The successful applicant will be self-motivated and able to integrate into a professional team as well as work on their own under minimal supervision. You should have a passion for conservation management and for engaging people in biodiversity. Further training and development will be offered for the right people to grow. The role has many opportunities to develop further within the broader conservation/ecological sector.

Full job description and person specification.

If you are interested in applying for the above position, please email a copy of your CV and a short covering letter to paul@ehmltd.com
