Technical Lead

Remote – Travel to Middlesbrough when required

Do you want to help shape software that impacts thousands of lives?

Who are we?
We’re the UK’s #1 construction-specific software company, delivering end-to-end digital solutions across the entire build lifecycle. Our platforms power the projects that shape our world—used by thousands of customers and impacting millions of lives.

With teams across the UK, Europe, and India, we’re driving an ambitious product roadmap centered on large-scale transformation, continuous delivery excellence, and global expansion. If you're passionate about people, process, and technology, we want to hear from you.

Purpose of the Role

We’re looking for a Technical Lead to join us on a 14-month fixed-term contract, covering maternity leave. This hybrid role blends agile delivery leadership with hands-on technical acumen.

You’ll lead a multi-disciplined software team, ensuring delivery of high-quality, scalable software using Agile methodologies. While not expected to code, your technical background enables effective conversations with architects, engineers, and stakeholders, bringing clarity, coordination, and confidence to every sprint.

You’ll report to the Development Director and work closely with product owners, tech leads, and other delivery leads across the business.

Key Responsibilities

Product Delivery

* Champion Agile/Scrum methodologies and facilitate ceremonies (planning, standups, retros, etc.).

* Partner with the Product Owner to shape backlogs and define sprint deliverables.

* Monitor team velocity, sprint health, and release planning.

* Remove delivery blockers and manage risk escalation.

* Communicate technical goals clearly to both engineers and business stakeholders.

* Contribute to improvements in cross-team collaboration and agile maturity.

Key Skills, Experience & Qualifications

• Hands on experience with Java or .Net
• Experience in managing and delivering projects using Agile methodologies.
• A good understanding of the full scrum lifecycle.
• Demonstrable experience in building and managing scrum teams, providing team leadership, people management and coaching for performance.
• Experience with methods and techniques used for planning and monitoring the progress of projects and assessing their status and health as well as that of the team and the process.
• Relevant technology experience in line with the product.
• Established and demonstrable track record of managing all aspects of a successful product delivery.
• Degree level or equivalent education in a software engineering discipline preferred.
• You will be articulate, with excellent communication skills, able to listen and provide answers.
• Capable of being “hands-on” technically with the team when necessary.
• You will be a passionate individual who can change others' way of thinking.
• You’ll be able to inspire and motivate teams towards the company vision, values and goals.
• Excellent planning and organisational skills to successfully plan and coordinate a high number of activities, with excellent time management, prioritisation and the ability to remain calm and objective under pressure.
• Strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking and analytical skills.
• Confident and decisive with the ability to influence others.
