By being part of the Bart’s Health Trust and through our strong partnership with PLACE and ICB, GPs and other stakeholders, you will be able to develop further and lead on the delivery of excellent care on our orthopaedic and plastic surgery wards (10F and 12C) as well as trauma ward 12D and the fracture clinic. You will also benefit from being part of the integrated service that spans across physical, mental, social care and additional support services.
The post holder will play a significant nursing leadership role in supporting the multi-disciplinary team to provide excellent patient care. The post holder will need to demonstrate a strong interest and experience in orthopaedic/plastic surgery and/or trauma as well as an up-to-date knowledge of challenges and opportunities for delivering timely, safe, effective and compassionate care. Management skills, experiences of leading on quality improvement projects, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, including experience with change management.
Main duties of the job
The post holder provides forward-thinking clinical and professional leadership to nursing staff at all levels within their service group, ensuring that nursing care is delivered to a high standard and that the nursing resource is managed effectively. She/he contributes to the on-going implementation of the nursing and midwifery strategy, ensuring achievement of its objectives and proactively modernising nursing roles in accordance with the needs of patients. The prospective post holder must possess expertise in clinical management, risk evaluation, change management and service improvement.
She/he will also undertake the key functions of the Senior Nurse role ensuring the patient experience in wards/departments is always of the highest possible standard with particular emphasis on dignity and compassion, and the delivery of the quality improvement objectives.
The post holder will have overall accountability for the day-to-day managementof the nursing service across their area. They will also work as ahighly specialised member of the inter-professional team to ensure that theneeds of the patient are met at all timesand that staffing is at an appropriatelevel to meet all of our patients’ needs.
The post holder will take ultimate responsibility for the standard of theenvironment within service area, ensuring that patients comfort and nutritional needs are met and also that staff maintain cleanliness as defined by nationalstandards. Outstanding standards of nursing care will be delivered and overseen by the successful candidate. The post holder will beaccessible and visible to staff, patients and visitors, ensuringthat patients are treated with respect and dignity by nursing staff who are clinically competent to undertake their role.
The post holder will work in partnership with the Service Clinical Director and Service General Manager in developing the service’s strategic direction and policy framework, ensuring that the service contributes significantly to the achievement of corporate objectives and that effective governance arrangements are implemented and maintained.
You will be required to network with other parts of the healthcare system at the RLH and influence change, where required, to ensure the safety and quality standards for the ward areas are met. This might also require you to work collaboratively and effectively with other disciplines, external organisations and key stakeholders.
The postholder might be required to work at weekends, nights and across the Trust at any timethroughout the duration of his/her contract. This may entail travel and workingat different hospitals within the BH Group.
The post holder will have full responsibilities for relevant nursing budgets.
