Job Overview:
As a Barista at The Watering Place, you will be responsible for preparing and serving high-quality hot and cold beverages, providing excellent customer service, and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment. You will be a key part of our front-of-house team, ensuring every customer leaves with a smile and a great coffee in hand.
Key Responsibilities:Customer Service
* Greet customers warmly, take orders accurately, and provide knowledgeable menu guidance
* Deliver excellent customer service with a friendly and approachable attitude
* Handle customer queries, feedback, or complaints professionally and positively
Beverage Preparation
* Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold drinks, including speciality coffees, teas, and other beverages
* Operate and maintain the espresso machine and grinders to consistently high standards
* Follow café recipes, portion standards, and presentation guidelines
* Ensure every drink meets the café's quality and consistency standards
Food Service Support
* Assist with serving food orders, preparing light snacks, and presenting dishes neatly
* Support the café team during busy periods, including clearing tables, washing up, and running food
Cleanliness & Hygiene
* Maintain a clean, tidy, and organised workspace at all times
* Follow daily and weekly cleaning checklists, including coffee machines and equipment
* Comply with all food hygiene, allergen awareness, and health & safety regulations
Cash Handling & Till Duties
* Accurately process transactions using the till system
* Handle cash and card payments responsibly and follow opening/closing cash procedures
Teamwork & Support
* Work closely with colleagues to ensure smooth service and a positive atmosphere
* Support café events and outside catering where required (occasional off-site work may be involved)
* Communicate effectively with the kitchen and front-of-house teams

* Passionate about coffee and hospitality, with a genuine interest in creating great customer experiences
* Reliable and punctual, with the ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis
* Team-focused, willing to "muck in" and support colleagues wherever needed
* Calm under pressure, able to multitask during busy service without compromising on quality
* Detail-oriented, ensuring drinks, food, and service are consistently high-quality
* Adaptable, willing to support the café at outside catering events when required
Requirements:
* Previous experience as a barista is essential.
* Strong communication and customer service skills
* Knowledge of coffee equipment (espresso machine, grinders, milk frothing)
* A good understanding of food hygiene and safety practices (Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate is a plus)
* Ability to stand for long periods and perform hands-on tasks such as lifting, cleaning, and carrying trays
* Right to work in the UK
