The Education Entitlement Service (EES) strives to deliver outstanding services for our customers, predominantly the children of Coventry, who may be requiring access to education or alternative education provision. We ensure vulnerable children are appropriately supported, have a voice, and hopefully achieve high achievement and excellent progress. The EES is made up of diverse teams that recognise, support and apply innovative solutions to address the growing issues in relation to educating vulnerable pupils in schools. Coventry Music Service are the lead provider of Music Education in the city and the lead organisation of Coventry Music Education Hub. Our goal is to deliver an inclusive offer of Music Education across the city as part of the Education Entitlement Service.
What is the job role?
Coventry Music is looking to recruit a dynamic, enthusiastic and passionate music educator to grow opportunities for children and young people across the city in our rapidly expanding Alternative Provision programmes. Depending on musical interests and skills of the successful candidate, the role includes delivery in our Coventry Alternative Provision Programme (students attend during the school day), the AP Academy (previously Pupil Referral Unit), partnership programmes with organisations such as St Giles Trust, or with individual students to meet needs outside mainstream education.
The role requires high‑quality instrumental skills and the ability to deliver in a variety of settings while supporting Coventry Music to expand and implement the key strategies of the Heart of England Music Hub, focusing on inclusion and access for all children and young people in the city. For a full‑time member of the team, there will be an expectation to deliver music provision for 20 hours per week. They would also lead groups that rehearse out of school hours and work with regional groups across the hub area. One working day a week during term time is allocated to develop programmes and opportunities outside of teaching time.
Initially, this post is funded until Summer 2027 and will be reviewed alongside the Music Hub Investment Process to continue into Autumn 2027 and beyond. The post is open to flexible working arrangements including part‑time, term‑time only + 3 weeks, and full time.
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and requires a satisfactory DBS check. All candidates must have the right to work in the UK; we are not offering sponsorship for this role.
Who are we looking for?
* Experienced in music education, with a high level of specialism in one area and knowledge of a music education hub.
* Ability to generate relationships with schools and stakeholders to expand delivery of music education across the city and inspire the next generation of musicians.
* Deliver and lead sessions in their musical area of expertise.
* Confident to teach and build relationships to support young people accessing music as a tool to support wider growth and personal development.
* Deliver and co‑ordinate projects and events both inside and outside of the school day and flexible to work evenings and weekends across the whole year.
