SEN Teaching Assistant – Stoke (ST2)

About the Role
We are seeking a caring, proactive and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a warm and supportive primary school in the ST2 area of Stoke-on-Trent. This is a full‑time position to start immediately and will continue until the end of the summer term.
The school is looking for someone who is confident working closely with children who have a range of additional needs, including:
ASD / social communication needs
Speech, language and communication difficulties
SEMH needs (emotional regulation, confidence, anxiety)
Moderate learning difficulties
Sensory needs
You will work under the direction of the class teacher and SENCO to support learning, wellbeing and positive behaviour, both 1:1 and in small groups.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 support for pupils with special educational needs, following individual learning plans (IEPs/EHCPs).
Assist the teacher in delivering differentiated activities and structured routines.
Use positive behaviour strategies to help pupils stay calm, focused and engaged in learning.
Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation and social skills.
Encourage independence, confidence and positive peer relationships.
Prepare learning materials and assist with classroom organisation.
Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff and the SENCO.
Promote a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, staff and families.
Follow safeguarding procedures and uphold high standards of pupil care.
Requirements
Experience supporting children with SEN (school‑based or similar setting).
Calm, patient and nurturing approach.
Strong communication and behaviour‑management skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and support staff.
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
Availability to start immediately and commit until summer.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
