Job summary
Coastal Sussex CAMHS Service has an exciting opportunity for a permanent, Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) Consultant Psychiatrist to join their locality team. The post will work as part of a friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team that includes nurses, psychologists, systemic family therapists and child psychotherapists.
This role offers a Recruitment and Retention payment of £45,000 structured over a three‑year period (£15,000 on recruitment, £10,000 at 12 months, £10,000 at 24 months, £10,000 at 36 months).
Main duties of the job
The service follows NICE evidence‑based treatment for children and young people. You will provide high‑quality specialist clinical assessments, including relevant psychiatric and physical investigation, and work collaboratively to plan and deliver tailored treatment plans.
* Provide medical psychiatric assessment and intervention, including pharmacology and mental health act assessments to CAMHS in Coastal West Sussex (Chichester and Worthing Bases) within a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Offer high‑quality specialist CAMHS clinical advice, assessment and intervention to children and young people in a range of settings.
* Engage families/carers in planning and provision of care.
* Provide timely advice and consultation to GPs, social services and other referrers to facilitate appropriate access to services.

Person Specification
* Qualifications/Eligibility – MB BS or equivalent medical qualification, fully registered with the GMC, licence to practise, included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months, in good standing with the GMC, and approved clinician status or able to achieve within three months.
* Transport – Holds and will use a valid UK driving licence or provides evidence of an alternative.
* Clinical skills, knowledge & experience – Excellent knowledge in the specialty, bio‑psycho‑social clinical skills, broad medical knowledge, and excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
* Desirable – Wide range of specialist and sub‑specialist experience relevant to the post within the NHS or comparable service.
* Academic skills & lifelong learning – Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training, lead and work within a team, demonstrate commitment to shared leadership and collaborative working, participate in continuous professional development, research or service evaluation, use and appraise clinical evidence, actively participate in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes, and work in a participatory way to share decision‑making with service users.
