The Role The Chief Engineer is responsible for taking any necessary actions for safety, security, pollution prevention and the efficient operation of the ships, engine room and associated mechanical/electrical services. In certain situations, this may mean deviation from documented procedures. Principal Responsibilities • Efficient operation and maintenance of all plant and equipment associated with safety and anti-pollution as defined by statutory legislation and company procedures • Regular inspections of all plant and equipment • Maintaining stand-by plant and systems in a completed state of readiness to meet any emergency requirements • Testing stand-by systems on a regular basis and in accordance with company procedure • Assigning ratings specific roles with respect to the engineering department’s responsibilities under the safety management system • Investigating non-conformances and applying corrective action as agreed with the ship’s Master The Candidate • Previous experience as Chief Engineer on board a similar vessel • COC required Chief Engineer, STCW III/3, • STCW Advanced Firefighting and Fire Prevention • STCW Personal Survival Techniques • STCW Proficiency in Survival craft and rescue boats What's in it for you We offer an excellent package with pension, life assurance, Cycle to Work scheme and much more as well as opportunities for on-the-job training and career progression within a stable environment.
