An opportunity has arisen for a Health and Safety / Manual Handling Advisor in our Health & Safety Department.
Working within the Occupational Health and Safety Team, you will help achieve Trust targets and enhance our reputation for excellence.
A thorough knowledge of health and safety and manual handling practices in an NHS hospital is highly desirable. Relevant training will be provided.
Although based at Wexham Park Hospital, the ability to travel between Trust sites is essential.

Main duties of the job
You will provide training to clinical and non-clinical staff at all levels, developing and presenting a wide range of health and safety and manual handling courses. You will also answer enquiries and provide proactive advice on health and safety and manual handling matters.
You will assist in developing departmental reports, policies, guidance notes, advice leaflets, the intranet site, and e-learning courses.

Job responsibilities
* Contribute to the development and implementation of policies related to Health & Safety, Manual Handling, Bariatric, and Display Screen Equipment (DSE).
* Deliver high-quality manual handling training for new and existing staff, considering current legislation and best practices.
* Recognize the need for and initiate additional specialist training as required.
* Design and deliver manual handling training and develop a network of Manual Handling Links, acting as a point of contact and mentor.
* Ensure venues and trainers are available for training sessions, and set up training rooms accordingly.
* Maintain accurate training records.
* Conduct workplace assessments and recommend control measures to reduce hazards and risks.
* Perform audits of Health & Safety and Manual Handling activities across the Trust annually.
* Assist in assessing patients in clinical settings, advising on safe movement and equipment use.
* Support the delivery of care plans for patients with complex needs, including managing and storing Trust Bariatric equipment.
* Participate in trials of new equipment, providing feedback and demonstrating use in training environments.
* Review activities through audits to ensure safety, quality of care, dignity, and respect are maintained.
* Assist in investigations of incidents, accidents, claims, and complaints, producing reports and liaising with relevant parties.
* Attend relevant meetings and conferences, representing the Trust.
* Maintain professional knowledge and establish effective relationships with staff.
* Exhibit high standards of professional practice and behavior.
* Undertake other duties as appropriate, such as promotional activities like Occupational Health and Skills Blitz days.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Evidence of continuing education & professional development.
* Teaching qualification.
* Qualification in Back Care.
Skills & Knowledge
* Knowledge of legislation related to Manual Handling and its workplace effects.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong presentation skills with the ability to develop and deliver training.
* Understanding of H&S issues in the NHS.
* Knowledge of Manual Handling requirements within the NHS.
Experience
* Relevant NHS working experience and qualifications.
