We are looking for a Farm Business Survey South Manager to join our team at Genus. You will lead a regional team of Research Officers in the delivery of the nationally important Farm Business Survey (FBS), which plays a critical role in informing UK and European agricultural policy. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will be responsible for data collection, analysis and processing of farm business data, maintaining strong relationships with participating farmers and ensuring high-quality data is collected efficiently and accurately. You will work closely with DEFRA, external stakeholders and survey participants to ensure that the FBS continues to provide valuable insights for agricultural policy-making. Your leadership, data expertise and passion for UK farming will help shape the future of agricultural research. You will need experience in managing teams, working with agricultural data and developing strong relationships with stakeholders. The role requires a practical approach, problem-solving skills and the ability to develop and coach a team to deliver excellent results. Leadership & Team Management Lead and develop a regional team of Research Officers, overseeing workload management, performance appraisals and training plans. Conduct regular 1:1s and provide coaching to support team development and ensure the efficient delivery of the Farm Business Survey. Farm Business Data Collection & Analysis Work alongside your team to gather, analyse and validate farm business data, ensuring high levels of accuracy and quality. This includes field visits and ongoing communication with participating farmers and growers to collect essential financial and physical data. Reporting & Data Submissions Ensure timely and accurate data returns to DEFRA, including detailed breakdowns of farm inputs and outputs, to produce comprehensive management accounts for participating businesses. Farmer Relationships & Feedback Build and maintain professional relationships with farmers, providing them with benchmarking results and performance feedback to enhance their farm business operations. Participant Recruitment Work with the FBS Farm Recruitment Manager to recruit new participants for the Farm Business Survey, ensuring that the survey continues to meet the needs of DEFRA and the agricultural industry. Data Security & Compliance Ensure the secure handling, storage, and return of sensitive participant records, adhering to data protection regulations and maintaining confidentiality. Experience & Background Proven leadership experience with a strong focus on people development and team management. A thorough understanding of agriculture, horticulture, and rural communities, with hands-on experience in farm business operations. Strong numerical skills with experience in working with detailed financial data and using it for reporting and analysis. Excellent relationship-building and communication skills with the ability to influence and support a variety of stakeholders, including farmers and external partners. Ability to work with MS Excel at an advanced level, and experience with accounting software (e.g., Xero) is beneficial. Self-motivated, organised, and comfortable with flexible working, including regular regional travel. Technical Skills Experience in data collection, analysis and reporting. An understanding of agricultural data collection methods and ensuring data accuracy. Experience in maintaining data security and confidentiality standards. Familiarity with farm business management principles and tools. Personal Attributes A passion for agriculture and a commitment to improving the UK farming industry. Detail-oriented, proactive and resourceful in problem-solving. Strong leadership skills, with a focus on coaching and developing team members. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment. Additional Requirements A valid driving licence and willingness to travel within the region.
