This is a role for a senior Technician currently looking to take their career to the next level. You will be responsible for the productivity and overall efficiencies of a busy workshop. Your remit will be to oversee the day-to-day activity and ensure that jobs are allocated via a card system to the Vehicle Engineers.
You will also be working on the company's outstanding fleet of high-spec bespoke vehicles, so current mechanical experience is essential. Your daily duties will be approximately 60% on the tools, ensuring work is carried out to specifications and within time frames. You will liaise with the Parts Department to ensure the correct equipment is used for repairs.
This role suits someone with experience in a similar role within an HGV or Council Fleet workshop environment and good technical knowledge of commercial vehicles. Excellent people skills are critical, as you will liaise with internal and external stakeholders, sometimes in high-pressure environments, requiring a calm and professional approach.
The vehicles worked on range from heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), road tankers, MOD, GSE, gritters, RCVs, refuge vehicles, to road sweepers. The fitters under your guidance are highly skilled, working with diesel, hybrid, and fully electric vehicles, so staying updated with modern vehicle technologies is important.
Your workshop will handle:
1. Routine and preventative maintenance
2. MOT preparation
3. Scheduled servicing to DVSA standards
4. 6 or 8 weekly inspections
5. Correction of running defects
6. Chassis and fabrication work
7. Hydraulics and pneumatics
8. Improvement of vehicle standards
9. Electrical and wiring inspections and corrections
Ideally, you will be fully qualified (City & Guilds, NVQ, or equivalent). Good IT skills and experience with vehicle transaction systems are also important.
Kautec Recruitment recruits for various sectors and is actively seeking HGV Technicians, Fitters, Mechanics, Mobile Technicians, PSV Technicians, and Engineers for fleet management clients across the UK.
