You will drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity; such as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks and Airport Rescue Firefighting vehicles. You will respond to the presence, or potential releases of hazardous materials for the purpose of stopping or controlling their release and perform noninvasive emergency medical procedures. You will perform hazard and risk assessment, conduct complete incident analysis and perform Basic Life support. You will perform crash-rescue and firefighting duties involving air traffic or support operations where hazardous conditions are such that the expectancy for fire is high and potential for becoming destructive is great. In the course of these duties, you will perform structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities, which may include large multi-storied buildings, industrial areas, and/or base storage facilities. All duties will be performed in accordance with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures, in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment. Qualifications and Key skills A valid UK driver's license (Category C) is required. One years specialized experience demonstrating the key skills listed below: 1. Knowledge to drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity, and the principles of hydraulics as they pertain to water-flow, water pressure, water levels, line (friction) losses, etc. 2. Knowledge of basic and specialized airfield and structural firefighting equipment (fire alarm system operation, fire extinguishing equipment operation, etc.), techniques, and procedures; and of basic and specialized building design, construction, and occupancy. 3. Knowledge of HAZMAT emergency response procedures, equipment, identification, and mitigation actions. 4. Knowledge of basic life support techniques and protocols; and of safety requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations, and/or technical orders. 5. Skill in operating communications equipment. 6. Ability to apply basic life support techniques and protocols; conduct complete HAZMAT incident analysis; maintain good working relations; communicate orally and in writing; and lift and carry heavy loads You are required to be certified by the Department of Defense Firefighter Certification System as Airport Firefighter (includes Firefighter I, II), HAZMAT Awareness, HAZMAT Operations, HAZMAT Technician, Apparatus Driver Operator – Pumper, Apparatus Driver Operator – Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting¸ Apparatus Driver Operator (or equivalent) Other Significant facts 1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations. This position may also be coded as mission essential. 2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training. 3. Overtime may be required and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent. 4. You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 5. You must pass pre-employment and annual physicals (including specific vision standards), work in adverse conditions using required safety/respiratory/hearing gear and be subject to drug testing for reasonable suspicion or post-accident. 6. You may be required to maintain a current National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) certification. 7. The position requires a 12-month probationary period and falls under UK retirement rules for Primary Firefighters (age 60).
